Rusty fragging tools

So, what do you folks do about this?

I've got a pair of bone cutters that are rusted to the point where they don't operate easily.

I'm tempted to go after them with some 3-in-1 oil or WD-40, but am reluctant to have any residue get into the tank.

Any ideas? :hammer:

Thanks for the image! I'm one who can't handle the bright red stuff hitting the white linoleum. I wouldn't be at all afraid using a light coating of mineral or vegetable oil.

I always rinse mine off with fresh water after each use. Sucks to have to do but the only way to keep them from rusting in my opinion.

I would be afraid to spray with wd40 since I always have my bone cutters completely submerge in my display/tank water.

not sure if it will work but I use beeswax for my tools its not easy to do though unless first disolved , linseed oil maybe another option ,safe for food grade wooden bowls.

Just a guess but I think you would want to heat the metal to get it to penetrate into it.

I had this same problem until I started rinsing them in fresh water right after each use then drying them. Have not had any rusting since

Soak the cutters with oil, they'll loosen right up. Then wash them with something that breaks the oil- like dish soap, Rinse really well. I've Done it a hundred times.

Then after each use in the tank rinse with fresh.
