S. Gigantea Carpet Anemone Tank

Very cool (and expensive) experiment. Kudos on putting your time/money/sanity on the line for the sake of "what if". I have hopes of keeping a gig. or haddoni in the near future but I think one is enough for me ;)

I'm watching closely. I'm starting a spiecies specific nem tank. And I'm liking gigs more now that I see cipro working so well these days. Those nems have great color and look great!

I'm surprised you didn't quarantine them separately so that any bacterial or other pathogenic infection from one wouldn't get transferred to all the others. Then again I worked in a microbiology pathogen lab so I may be over sensitive to cross contamination and infection. But if it's working well for you so far then more power to you! Do you have a UV sterilizer running? I know the light would decay certain antibiotics faster, but it would be a constant sterilizing device for the water.

Where did you order the gigs from? I saw your pic of the box with the gigs in it. ( drooled excessively ) and wondered where i could get one? I dont know anywhere in the US that could simply supply me with four gigs. Heck, even one Gig.

could be the over sensitive to cross contamination...lol

the reason why I didn't choose to go that route is the lack of QT tanks plus x amount of water needed. And I personally think cipro would take care of any pathogen or bacterial Surfing in there.

updated with pix... now they are all in the cube. Unfortunately the blue one didn't make it. There are a total of 10 gigs.

Still not looking the best they can be yet, but I certainly don't expect them to. As long as they don't deflates, I think you have a chance to keep them well.
Good luck

considering the treatment, you are 7 for 8 on this shipment, or 10 for 11 overall, that is astounishing!

I can not wait for the day when they all regained their color, that will be a gigs tank of the decade for sure :)

somehow ive completely missed this thread until today...i gotta get away from work more looks good.. :) should answer alot of quesions ppl have bout keeping multiple s. gigs in one tank...

ive only ever had 3 in one tank at a time ans that was for about a month before i noticed on drastically shrinking... but all mine are paired up..

keep it up!

It looks great! I can't wait to see the tank when they have all colored up. I hope they continue to regain health

Looking good for the time had. And the tank is super clean with plenty of volume for grow out. They certainly have a much better than typical chance for long term captive life. Good luck.

Love this tank!!! Good luck with your breeding project! I'm trying to do the same thing, on a smaller scale/budget with rock flower anemones.

This tank is truly awesome looking........ I'm on the road to getting more Gigs in my 150 but this is an inspiration...

It's actually real neat to see one of your bleached purple gigs because it looks exactly like the shade of purple mine is, and seeing the purple on the left of it shows me what mine will eventually look like...

Keep it up, and pictures, pictures, pictures!!!!!

So do you just have one mp40 in this tank? I am looking to do a similar set up, just different sized tank 36"l x 30"w x 20"t. I was looking at two mp40's for my tank and just run them on a lower setting and through an apex. Cuddos to you for dropping some serious coin for this. My wife keeps having heart attacks when I talk about fish stuff, no offense to those who have had a heart attack.

I have done a little reading in the past on cipro, seems like it is working or atleast giving us, the aquarist a fighting chance at successfully keeping nems. What dosage did you use and what was your schedule of implementing it? Could you explain a little more on that.

Also this is a question for everyone- if your goal is to have multiple gigs in one tank, how would you go about getting them? Would it be better to get them all at one shot and treat them all at one shot? Or get them individually and treat them one by one. With a very long quarentine process. I have heard the horror stories about people getting multiple gigs and the new gig wipes out the existing population. Grant it I have to question their quarentint process, if there was one.

TIA for the responses- and I wish the op all the luck in your goal.

Thanks guys... I am hoping to update this tank on a weekly basis unless something dramatically changes like spawning etc...

I just received my mp40 in today and will implement ASAP but with my set up I will be using two once funds come available for the second.

I was using 2-10gallons to quarantine 4 in each with 250mg per day for 7 days along with 5 gallons of water change from main system temp at 79-80 salinity 1.025 strong pump and lots of light I had 4 48" t5 at 8hrs

you know where I'm at about this question, get it done ASAP. I guess there are some pros and cons on either way

So regarding multiple gigs in one tank.. I have a purple in my tank and want to add a green & blue at some point... maybe soon, but I absolutely will QT the new-comer, Cipro on hand should anything arise. My biggest fear would be to have the new one come in and bring down my just recovering purple Gig. Is that what you mean? You didn't elaborate much on your answer.. Sorry if I missed something.

Another blue one DOA last night and a purple DOA this morning. I did retreat them a couple days ago but they were sort of eating them themselves. So I knew it was a goner. The other 5 are still doing a little better but still wary. Will keep y'all posted.
