S. Gigantea under T5's?

I was thinking of setting up my 65 as an anemone tank. I'd like to get a Gigantea and a pair of clowns, and that would be it as far as livestock. Would the 36" 4, 6, or 8 bulb Tek light be enough or are halides a must for this anemone?

IME, S. gigantea is one of the few anemone that absolutely needs metal halides.

That's a very cool thread. The only thing I would say is that pc's don't really compare to T5's as far as par ratings go.

Unless you have a very shallow tank, Giganteas require MH.

I have a fixture with 2 65 watt pc's and a 400 watt halide. Would this be ok, or do I have to go with dual 250's?

One more question... can I go BB with a gigantea? They will attatch to rocks right?

I think that would be plenty.

FWIW: The standard belief is that gigantea carpets prefer to live in the sand or on the sand/rock interface. Mine lives at the top of the rock work, much like a bta. There are at least two 10 years old giganteas that I have seen pictures of, that also live at the top of their reef tanks.

T5s have just as much PAR as MHs...MH are more of a point source of light while the T5 lighting is even throughout the tank...if that makes sense

My 2 gigantea's live near the rock/sand interface, one is on top of a rock, one has attached to the bottom glass through about 1" of sand. IMO I don't think it would much matter if my tanks were BB, I don't get the impression it makes any difference to the anemone.

And no matter what lighting you have you will need to find a nice healthy specimen. I sure wish I had better luck with them.

What is the deal carpets colors light e.g. brown deeper water?
The brighter colors reds,oranges,greens from shallow water less 4 ft? Blues and purple 10-15ft?
I seen carpets in the wild (Thailand,Fiji,Indo,Saipan and Guam)but for the life of me can't remember the water depth. On scuba and snorkeling tours.Too many years ago, 10-15 and too many lost brain cells. I'm going T5's for my 75g.
