Sabae Anemone

Neokane

New member
So in the past week, my Sabae Anemone has shriveled up and has retreated under some rocks. Woke up this morning to find it upside down.

Parameters seem to be fine

1.024
Alk 8.3
Ph 8.0 (first thing this morning)
phosphate is .0398 (13 Hanna ULR phosphorus Meter)
Nitrites and nitrates 0
API ammonia kit sucks.. (looks yellow green)
All other creatures are doing well

Tank is over 3 years old (2 years in my possession)
90 gal.

There are lots of questions: How did you acclimatize it? How long have you had it? How much light was it getting? Are there other nems in the same aquarium? Was it being fed and how often? Was it rejecting food? Was it hosting a clown? With a sebae a lot of things can make it feel out of sorts and if it isn't rectified things can go downhill from there.

I had it as long as I have had the tank (2 years)
Rock flower anemones
Rod's fish food once a week (same feeding schedule since I have had it, variety of frozen food)
Hosting a pair of Clowns
Did reject food yesterday.

Is it white in colour (showing it is bleached)? If it's not bleached the problem could be caused by the chemicals released by the rock flower nems. I think the sebae/H.crispa is probably more sensitive to chemicals from other nems and shows the effect sooner or later from them.

I think something similar was happening to my H.crispa. It was doing great for 4 months really swelling up, feeding every alternate day and looking beautiful. I added a GBTA and later a Haddoni carpet. Initially the H.crispa didn't show any adverse effects but then after maybe a month it started rejecting food and shrivelled up. I attribute it to the chemical build-up from the GBTA and Haddoni. At the time I wasn't running GAC which I realized later I should have. If you run GAC it can absorb a lot of the chemicals in a pretty short time. I wouldn't feed it any more now because it'll increase the stress it's under right now. If the GAC works then I expect it can recover.
