sad day in the keys

The article talks about how the c02 is effecting the ph of the ocean and how it impaires the ability to regenerate new shells or skeletons in invertibrates. The main example in the article is how clownfish larvae are effected by not being able to find a reef. Written by Denise Nielsen Tackett. I saw this article in CORAL magazine.

this site has put the article up so you dont have to buy the magazine:

Elan, Thanks now we can all review the information. I appreciate you taking the time to dig up the link.

Ocean temps are up this year and bleaching is quite wide spread. It can be a natural process but recovery of the corals is directly related to water quality.
Trying to "restock" reefs were they have been destroyed by the deteriorating environment seems a little misguided unless you fix the water quality first.

the interesting thing about this method is that the corals grown in these structures are much more resistant to water quality problems than those that aren't. Very interesting option for resort destinations.

In water quality I would include fish populations. Local fishing has added to the decline of herbivores and so young coral even if hardy can't grow faster than the algae.
While I am not a proponent of man made global warming I sure think we have played a role in deteriorating water and air quality and that is where we should direct our resources.
Of course when humans are gone the earth will recover just fine.

They also say that a glacier covered the upper region of the USA at one time. Who contributed to global warming back then. Must of been the abundant amount of methane gas from dinosaur farts........

I wouldn't understand why you would read this forum if you wanted to make political statements about previous leaders. Political commentary soap box entertainers and serious problems are a worthless combination.

Just plain too many people and too much waste produced, along with misunderstanding of natural cycles are certainly the root causes. I do not know anybody that has the power to reverse this cycle but it does not take any talent or thought to deny or ignore it. I do know most of the world laughs when Limbaugh speaks, except here...

of course there is man made global warming. Do people actually deny the greenhouse effect? Its a fact that our atmosphere holds in this heat and without it we wouldnt live. co2 just reinforces it.

slow leak: i laugh too

all of that took MILLIONS of years to occur. The issue at hand is taking place from 50 years to a century.
