Hey there - I had a crab mishap in my little tank. I thought there was enough room for a few different kinds of porcelain crabs - but I was wrong :(
I got these two at the same time - both a little beaten up. I observed really carefully, and after the first little spar, they looked like they were going to live peacefully together. They both got stronger, and molted, gaining back all their limbs and that's when the fight was. I found the one that lost the fight hiding in a corner (unknowingly near the 3rd and largest porcelain crab - one of the dark purple shy ones) and rescued her to the AC70 HOB filter. I was so happy when she got all of her limbs back (she was missing both large claws and half her legs), but they're almost all ripped off again. She looks like a little hockey puck. No legs at all on one side and two tiny ones on the other. At least she has her fans!

She seemed more aggressive than the bigger stronger crab - just too confident!
Reminds me of that scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail - "merely a flesh wound!"
I squirt some coral frenzy her way or try to give her some mysis when I feed. Hopefully she'll pull through!

well...... they're pretty adorable really. Until they start killing each other :(
I was planning to add a pom-pom crab, but now I'm afraid that might not be a good idea. Anyone? Experience?
Just wait 'til you see what my new tank thread is going to be called.....

I have a Pom Pom and a Porcelain together. No problems so far. The Poms are darned cute, but seldom seen. The Porcelain is front and center all the time. I've found a bit of brittle star tentacle laying on the sand a few times and I suspect the Porcelain has snipped off an inch or so when the star got too close.

I think this thread got a little de-railed - starting with the word fetish perhaps :)

Anyway - little hockey-puck crab is still hanging in there!

Good News!

Good News!

My sad little crab just had a successful molt and now has all of her limbs again! They're so little! Looks like living in the HOB is working out for now :)

It's always nice when an animal recovers. Good work . Thanks for sharing.
