Gonna Need A Bigger Tank
My sailfin seems to picking at my pulsing xenia...is this normal? Anything I can do or let him have his fill?
Thanks,
-Daryl

Maybe feed him more? I have a Red sea sailfin and he likes to eat some Calerpa but when I keep him well fed he doesnt pick at it.

Along those lines...I was told to feed the critters twice a day...is this the preffered schedule or should I feed them once a day? They don't seem to eat much in the a.m.

For tangs... If the clip is bare I put another sheet of nori on it. Basically they need to eat all day long. hope that helps :)

Thanks TAMike, but at the risk of revealing even more of my ignorance, what is the clip thing of which you speak...I've simply been feeding it via the pellets. Please tell me if there's a better/more preferred method...and thanks again, already your info is helpful.
I'm just following the directions of the guy from whom I "inherited" the tank.

You can get the Algae clips from the LFS. Basically they just have a suction cup and you clip nori sheets to it. You can also get nori sheets at the LFS but they charge way too much.

For a cheaper method just go to your local Chinese grocery store and get the sushi sheets... Its the same thing.. Just make sure they arent flavored or anything. Thats where I get it. I have a XL Naso Tang, 2 yellow tangs, and a Powder brown and they are fed a whole sheet at a time.

Do you just put it in a sheet at a time and then replace it when it's gone or is there a "lifespan" to it and you take it out after and replace it with a new one after a period of time?

I would say start a little at a time and check it to see how fast he is eating it. If he is not used to eating sheets he might need to get used to it first but tangs usually tear it up. If you leave it in too long make sure you take it out of the tank because I dont know if its bad or not but it smells worse than....I dont know but its really bad lol. I do my best to make sure there is something there to eat for them at all times.
In the 210 they go through about a sheet a day 3/4 of that being eaten by the Naso.

Find a Publix with a sushi counter back by their seafood department. They sell bags of nori sheets pretty cheap.

Thanks, TAMike and Paul...Publix won't be too hard to find here in Lakeland :)....I'll check into it. Anything to save my xenia :)

Wardworld- The Lake Miriam Publix has nori sheets. I'm in Lakeland also, plan on stopping by some time.

DaddyJax- I had to break out the blow torch to finally deal with my xenia. The ultimate solution!!

My Kole tang & yellow tang completely got rid of all of the xenia in my tank, than they ate my yellow pollyps, than they moved on to my zoos....................good luck
