Salinity.....how high is too high?

Just figured out my tank is running a bit high at around 37 PPT. After some research it seems people definitely report issues at 39. My tank looks good now, numbers are where I want them and growth is good and color decent. That said despite looking "good" I feel like something is off. A lot of these corals have looked better in the past. Obviously time will tell as I take measures to bring salinity back down to the sweet spot, but curious what the masses say. The climb has been gradual and likely been this way for several months so tank has been stable.

the Red Sea is higher than that, iirc, and they have some great reefs there... i would, however, slowly move it low. imo, no worries!!!

I had my sps tank sit at 1.028 for a few days then1.30 for half a day and dropped it to 1.025 over the course of a day without a single loss. YMMV.

While I think if it is stable at 37 PPT it would be ok, I would slowly start bringing it down to 35 IMO

Yeah I start to see things looking slightly stressed, nothing major but enough that I notice visually when I start to get around 1.029 1.030, I almost want to get a conductivity probe to alert me before it gets there (though if I would just check more frequently it wouldn't be an issue).....then I just siphon a few gallons out and let my gravity drip ATO get it back to normal

I also just realized that my nitrates have bottomed out so that would explain the lackluster appearance as well. I did a waterchange yesterday with 34 ppt water and have been skimming extra wet. Should be where it needs to be within a week.

I usually keep my systems between 35-36 ppt with no issue. I can swing it 1 PPT a day with no ill effects.

I have gone through a recent bout of rtn, after testing everything I could I was scratching my head, I convinced myself it had to be sg and took a sample to my lfs....yep, sure enough 103.1 my refractometer was telling me 102.6, so to answer your question sps will rtn over 103.0
