Notice the brown/dead area on the red monti......turns out i had / have monti eating nudis :angryfire:
they have destroyed all my caps and are slowly eating away at my remaining montis.

Here are some more shots after the dino outbreak and the Monti eating nudi infestation.

the almost all dead plating monti that was the first to go down

Looks like those dinos were no match for BrklynArch. Tank looks great.

haha thanks man.....yeah it was really ugly for a while and honestly im not sure what finally delivered the final blow, I really have to credit this site for the plethora of info.
I was on the verge of completely starting over before I started to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Incase anyone wants a quick "what should i do list" based on my hours of research on this site....this is what I did

1- a series of 3 day blackouts

2- not doing water changes for a month (water changes were fueling the algae growth

3- changing my photo period ( cut it down by an hour or so and reduced the intensity of my leds a bit)

4- manual removal of the offending crud (used a siphon connected to a filter sock back into the sump)

5- increased water flow (added a couple of Wp25's in the back corners of the tank)

6- hydrogen peroxide treatment ( 10ml once a day in the morning for about a week or so)
I didn't want to resort to any chemical remedies (ultra aglea x etc...) and the peroxide is the most extreme of what i did, but its actually very effective against nuisance algae.

also not sure if it had any effect but i also changed my salt mix from reef crystals to instant ocean.
I felt like the reef crystals had too many nutrients in the mix and was getting tired of cleaning out brown resdue the mixing container accumulated if it was mixed for any longer than 24 hrs

Hey Sal, keep up the fight, don't let em win!

Thanks Doc! Trying my best...but if its not one thing its another.

Noticed a small water mark on the ceiling above where the tank is and with in a day it grew into a big water mark accompanied by a leak.
Seems that all the snow and extreme weather found an opening in the very old roof in my apartment.
Its about 4 inches behind the tank so no dirty roof water made it into the tank, and i have a container catching the drip and pieces of plaster.
The leaking seems to have stopped, and a roofer came by on Friday to inspect and will fix what needs to be fixed on the outside once the weather permits.

Not sure how to handle the inside repair, don't think moving the tank is an option and not sure if it can be worked around....or rather worked over.
Ill post a picture later tonight.

So far its not getting any worse, but we are suppose to get hit with another storm Thursday so we shall see.....repair should be interesting to say the least.

Do you have renters Insurance? I had a flood in my home and the Ins. co. paid to have it moved then moved back after repairs were done.

I do have renters insurance....did they really? Thats interesting i will look into that.
What did they pay for exactly? The labor involved in moving the tank?
how did they come up with an amount?

I had a L.F.S give me an estimate. I did the work myself, built a bigger and better system in it's place and moved the equipment over. I had no choice but to move mine.
An adjuster will come over and most likely love your tank, feel sorry for you and pay...
You L.F.S. put it there and they will have to move it.....

So its been a while since I posted or updated this thread figured why not throw out an update to my 10's of subscribers...jk......ahhh whats a couple of years in reefing anyways.

Ive still been around and the Tank is still chooching along despite the various disasters and various life stuff etc...Ive also learned that having a baby will diminish your free time in a big way.

So long story short......in the last 2 years since my last post I pretty much lost almost everything (coral wise) in 2 separate crashes and what little remained was mostly decimated after a string what seemed to be back to back various equipment malfunctions and no free time to fix. But the whole while I kept it running best I could. The fish were doing great, fat and active, and the few zoanithids and soft corals I had were still kicking despite the terrible bubble algae that has taken over. So I let everything be and would work on the tank when I could here and there. Pulling bubble algae and trying to keep up with water changes etc.

Low and behold after some time some of my old encrusting coral had some life still. Pieces of my red monti came back as well as some sunset mont.

So last few months Ive been trying to turn her around and get back into the swing of things and wouldn't you know it...Bam! Sometime around 4-5am the silicone tubing connecting my chiller pump knocked loose somehow and the pump shot water all along the back of the tank and onto some electrical stuff....thankfully everything's on a GFCI and it kicked off and shut down power to everything. That is how it sat for about 2 hrs until I woke up and noticed the strange quiet in the living room.
Call into work sick and get to cleaning and trying to get everything back up......finally all squared away and the apex display is dead and my return pump wont start.
take out the return pump clean and take apart and soak and put back and still nothing.

End up having to buy a replacement return pump and picked up the very cool Vectra L1!
So got that up and chugging along and figure why not redo my return plumbing and eliminate the need for a secondary chiller pump. The L1 seems more than capable of acting as my return feeding 2 brs reactors, my chiller and a fuge.

Im gonna try and get a sketch of what i wanna do together and have you guys take a look in case i may have missed something or can eliminate anything.
