Salt Water Mixing Stations Let's See Them

Any pics of what your system looks like top side at the DT showing how you fill your sump?

My water changes are automated via a Genesis Renew. This one gallon metering bin handles the new salt water. Water is pumped into it from my holding tank. Simultaneously water is pumped from the sump into a separate metering bin under the tank. Once they are both full, a solenoid opens and water drains from the bin under the tank into a drain line in the shed. Water from the metering bin in the shed shown the photo below goes directly to the sump. I can do a large continuos water change using the Renew or my preset daily water changes. At present I change 5 gallons a day.

This is the metering bin under the tank near the sump where waste water is measured and expelled.

If I manually add water to the tank directly from the mixing bin in the shed outside, water is pumped in via this half inch PVC line that enters via the top of the tank..

Wow - that's a great system Slief! Any more idea for topside near the tank?

Thank you very much. Not sure what you are asking with regards to the top side near the tank. If you are talking about how to plumb the mixing station to the tank to add fresh salt water, that would really depend on how your tanks top is constructed. Since I have a top on my tank as opposed to rimless, I had to extend the PVC pipe over the edge of the opening. A rimless or more traditional top would simply involve a peice of pipe and an elbow with the line extending into or very near the waters surface. Personally, I prefer having the water go into the sump but for this line but I chose the path of least resistance as I didn't want to add a bulkhead to my sump for the PVC line.

I think I may do the line into the sump to fill it up for water changes. I should have my mixing station plumbed by this weekend and will be sending a pipe up thru the floor to deliver the new water to the sump.

What do you use to weigh the tubing down inside the tank so that it stays close to the bottom and doesn't curl or rise up?

Glad I stumbled upon this thread. Is anyone worried about using one pump and over time te salt water left over on the pipes saturating the ro water in smaller systems over time?

I did think about that...but I figured with my system..no biggy....

As for a small system, I would add a drain at various spots, esp before entering the main system so you can bleed out whatever was left in the line.

Mne is set up with a float to turn off fill mode when moving water from RO to mixing tank. the return from the mixing tank is closed so the little salt left in that side of the line should get pulled in and pumped back to the mixing tank. or at least most of it. what little is left after the transfer should not be an issue as it is so minute that it is very, very, diluted and as soon as I close the valve on the RO tank side what ever is left can't go anywhere. the line pumping into the mixing tank has a siphon break hole drilled to prevent back siphon once the tank is full and pump shuts off. I'm generally standing there watching and close the intake valve as soon as pump shuts down to keep the little bit in the riser from draining back, but a check valve would do just as well.

I wouldn't worry about it unless your RO and mixing tanks are only a couple gallons.

I added a 1/2" ball valve and reduced it down to add a 1/4" john guest fitting. That way u don't need to weigh down the line or any of that. I have one for each tank.
