Salt Water Mixing Stations Let's See Them

DaBob79...it doesn't have to be complicated. Coffee_snob summed it up nicely. A pump and hose (I personally use a white marine type garden hose) that run from laundry room to tank is all you need, and the containers to hold the RODI and salt water. By the way, I noticed you're in St. Louis - Born and raised there myself.

I started with 5 gallon mixing containers. That should work as a start. Small MJ pump to stir it.

Thanks! Still in the area?

No...move to Florida about 15 years ago. I like the weather here better...especially this time of year!!!

I dont mix or heat, easiest water changes ever, got rid of our mixing station altogether and use natural sea water stored in a 1000lt water container enough for 4 changes at a time.

My grill would look so much better placed where that tank is lllesley.

WOW... that is nice. How far are you away from the sea/ocean?

Has anyone that is using the large Ace Roto Mold containers mentioned how they put a downward facing 90 on the suction plumbing at the bottom of the tank inside? I, like worm will be buying large 7' tall containers to store RO and Salt Water.

Right now I have small 32g brute cans and have 3 Koralia powerheads to mix the salt fast. I wont be able to do that any longer in the new cans unless i use MP's because of cord length. Can anyone recommend a pump that has enough power and isnt too expensive that can really get that water churning to mix it up quickly? I use a small panworld 30px to pump the water from the cans to the tanks but that is way to small to really get much movement at all out of a tank that large.

Not an algae problem? Or is it covered?

I was going to ask too, how do you get the seawater into it?

ClownsRCoo -- -- I saw someone do this in either a thread or a video. Getting old is bad... Cant wait till I hit 30. I will look some more.

ClownsRCoo...I picked up a used Little Giant pump (around 1350 gph if I recall) and use it to mix and pump newly made water to tank. Plumb a line from the bottom of the container to the top, valve it appropriately, and it will self-circulate and mix your salt. Granted my containers are only about 4' tall, but it works perfectly. You can put it on a timer and run it a few times a day to keep it mixed if you're storing water. Just one approach.

We now have it covered in black plastic. No the water doesn't go off. Lfs delivers it. $100 for 1000lt. Pump it in pump it out straight into tank. The water itself is used water at a coral & fish research plant contains. 0 phos & nitrates saves us a fortune in not only salt mix but rodi water. & cartridges. I do put a powerhead in every couple of weeks to circulate it but don't have any problems. Our corals love it. .

What you talking about, the weather is beautiful here right now!!! Course I'm a trans plant and was born and raised in northern Iowa where we actually have winter...... :)

I'm happy you're having a mild winter thus far, but I'll take my chances over the next few months where I'm sitting! I will be back sometime in March so my fingers are crossed as I no longer own a winter coat, dust or no dust!!!

So far we've only had one week that qualified as winter when it dipped into single digits. Been here 7 years and the winter coat is starting to collect a nice layer of dust......

That was a COLD week though lol I'm ready for spring and baseball!!

Just finished mine today. No more driving 30 minutes to the LFS for water (RODI or Salt) anymore.

That was not to hard was it? Let see how long it takes for a good return on investment to happen.

I have two Bute containers I will use with uni-seal bulkheads.

When I drill the hole, do I drill perpendicular to the surface of the Brute container (on a slight angle) or horizontal with the floor? So as the pipes comes straight out. Or it doesn't matter that much?

Never used them before and just not sure how much wiggle room the uni-seals provide.

Thanks to all in advance.

Drill perpendicular to the side of the brute can. then lightly sand off any burs to make sure you get a good seal since the can walls are thin. The uniseals fit very snug which is how they make the seal.
