Salty Green Thumbs

I don't think Scolymias will ever get cheaper:( Along with any of the brains. They take way to long to grow to ever be profitable. I have fragged many brains and they literally take about 2-3 years to become nice round almost full size pieces. I sure hope someone finds a way!

"Dark Angler you are correct in the fact this is what local fish stores have stated they want. That is why I am growing them."

That's funny, my LFS wont take any more of my Tyree Neon Green Leather Frags, even for free.

I tried to GIVE away about 8 of them last month, & it was difficult.
I STILL have one big monster dying in my sump.

Just My opinion, they are not that desirable and even less profitable.

AND ANTHELIA!?! You are raising them on purpose?

Stu

I am raising both of the green leathers and the anthelia. Both still sell at times. I will gladly trade for your big leather that is dying in your sump..... don't worry I won't offer anthelia :)

Also as far as the scolys go I have not heard much success or at least rapid healing on them.

would you be interested in trading? i have tons of frags that just sit in the bottom of my tank, and some are mighty large. i would even just give some to you. i am just sick of the bottom of my tank being filled with frag junk.

I'd recomend you buy lots of large colonies and frag half grow the other half.

I never recommend that anyone operate as a chop shop. In fact, I expend a lot of energy trying to prevent it.

Unless you have colonies that are sexually breeding, the only way to get the coral without fragging is from the wild. Personally I'd rather see chop shops than taking corals from the ocean.

well isnt that the best way to make money when your selling frags?

If that's why you're here, you're in the wrong place.

The definition of "chop shopping" IS taking colonies from the ocean, and chopping them up to sell.

Thanks for the definition. Then I agree that chop shopping is a bad thing especially if the coral is already in someone's tank and can be readily fragged.

While I agree that chop shops are bad. Can anyone tell me if a coral supplier is chopping by their website. I seriously doubt it. Most of them are chop shops. Which is still better than all the LFS that bring in the colony and sell it whole or kill it. To me it is just the philosophy of this industry. Whatever works...why buy captive bread bangaii when I can get them cheaper from the wild, and just say they are captive bread. Not the way I would do it, but its pretty common in my opinion. Also, keep in mind that if these third world countries were not collecting for the hobby, they would be collecting to make crushed coral roads. At least collecting for the hobby there are people trying to improve collection knowledge and technique.
