Sand or crushed coral ?

How much vacuuming do you have to do of the sand bed? I don't want to have an issue with detritus. I think it's an important part of the ecosystem. I just don't want to have to vacuum too often. The rubble will go around my rock work and the sand will be between the two structures

I never vacuum my sandbed.. ever..

I have cucumbers/nassarius snails/bristleworms and various other infauna that shows up.. They do the "work" in the sandbed..
And flow attempts to keep detritus in suspension in the water column where it can be consumed by filter feeders/corals,etc... Detritus isn't a big negative to me.. Its food for others...

Most simply collects in my fuge in the sumps low flow area where it can be vacuumed out if needed (but I rarely do that either as its quickly processed into mostly inert "mud") Its quite the source of pod/worm food down there too..

Vacuum a sand bed? What's that? I never have, no - wait- I started to one time and said to myself, this is really stupid.

That's for the CUC to take care of.

I didn't say all that, but that's how it's done.

Oh, and I have so much in the tank, it's tough to find the sand bed.
