sand sifting goby??

I'm thinking of adding a diamond goby to my 55g mixed reef to work on my sandbed. I want to make sure that my sand isn't too coarse for one. I have a 4" bed of Seaflor special grade reef sand. Grain size varies from 1-2mm Would this sand be ok sizewise?

I think it would be fine. They really do a great job, just make sure the tank is covered. They WILL jump out.

as capt cully said (last unicorn?) if your tank is not covered then plan on buying a new one every few weeks.

SeaFlor special grade is fine. The Diamond Spot Goby will eat almost anything... problem is they can be timid and scared off by other agressive eaters and may eventually die due to starvation. I just lost mine after 3 years... I added a flame hawk who wouldn't let him eat.

They are jumpers for sure.
Don't get the sleeper gobies, make sure it's the orange diamond spot goby. Spleepers will spit sand on your live rock & corals.

i was trying to net mine once and he paniced and jumped out... but other than that he has never jumped. He eats anything I put in the tank. He quickly learned that the flake I feed to the clownfish is food. He knows as soon it touches the water lol.

He has even swam to the top to grab some but usually he just watches and waits for some float down. Then he will swim up and grab it. =)
he's a great fish.
