Sara;

Just so you know.. I am keeping an eye on your thread. :-)

Its looking good. Will look even better once all the fancy corals I have seen you walk away wtih.

may be some day I'll get to see it in person.

sanjay.

Sanjay - You are welcome to stop by anytime you are in the Chicagoland area! I'd be honored ;)

Yes, there's a few fancy corals ... you and I sure know where to find those!

Ryan009 - Thanks! I do need a schematic for that room! I'm hoping to get the room cleaned out somewhat soon. Also, once I plumb the systems together, I can rearraged the other system a bit and pull one of the 70G Rubbermaids out completely.

BenjieC - That was Brian's suggestion so that I don't have any issues with back-flow water spitting out the top if it's too short. My 92G system is doing that now on it's return line. I can always cut them down shorther later I guess if need be.

With 4-2" drains, you should need to worry about that.

I've been meaning to ask about those drains. They all come down into what looks like a manifold that appears to be the same size plumbing. It's hard to tell from the pictures and i've been too lazy to stop by and check for myself. :D

So you have 4 2" drains? Do they all go into that manifold? What size pipe is the manifold?

Yes, I have 4-2" drains ... 2 for normal usage and 2 for emergency useage if the water becomes too high in the overflow box. I will call them drain #1 through #4 starting from left to right in viewing the back of the tank.

Drain #1 is the primary drain and it feeds both the skimmer and the fuge and is not connected to the manifold.

Drain #2 and #3 are the emergency drains where the bulkheads are drilled slightly higher than #1 and #4. Drain #2 and #3 drain into the manifold.

Drain #4 is my other primary drain for the overflow box and it too drains into the manifold. I control the flow into this drain and will slow it down to make sure the skimmer and fuge are getting adequate flow.

The manifold is also a 2" pipe. I didn't see if necessary to use a 3" as it is not handling all of the flow from the tank.

Hope that make sense! Speak now if you see issues with this!

Ah, okay. That explains it. I'm just from the school that says "when putting multiple pipes into one, the target pipe should be big enough to handle all of the flow from the original pipes". Seeing them plumbed together just set of all kinds of alarms. :)

Speaking of emergency ... did you plumb the e-drains on your surges? I can't see pictures from this customer's internet connection and I can't remember.

The drains are there, I just need to add the tubing yet ... so you are correct in not seeing them fully plumbed!

Cool deal. I'm glad to hear it's coming along. Now hurry up and get this thing going! ;)

Just working out a couple leaky bugs in the system is all. Should hopefully have them fixed by late tonight and then I can continue to fill up the system with water. Nothing major yet, just small issues so far that are easy to fix! Hopefully it will be ready by Saturday and you can help me dump all the salt into the system!

Let me know if you need an assist with that. I'm heading back in on Thursday night and will be around all weekend.

Looks awesome Sara, getting sooo close!

This was not the beginning of my fear of plugging and unplugging items, it just reinforced my overall fear of electrocution!

Oh that sucks! I used to work on cars and high end audio systems and have taken more than my fair share of voltage. Needless to say i'm a little jumpy around DC voltage.

All reefers can appreciate this kind of thing... I worked at an aquaculture facility for a couple years and to put it politely, it was "old school." We used home-made internal "canister" filters that were ran by Maxi-Jet like pumps that had been around for years. The pumps were kept in "The Shock Box," in which there were probably fifty pumps and 2/3rds of them would shock the hell out of you when you plugged them in...for some god-awfull reason no one ever threw them away. This also necessitated standing on styro when working in the tanks so your feet weren't on the wet floor (which would also shock the hell out of you).

Ahhh... those were the days

Sara, it's getting really exciting...I can't wait to see some aquascaping going on :).

I can't wait either! On the 15th it will be 1 year since I had the tank crack and had it taken down.
