Savio Springflo Filter

Would Savio springflo Filter material work in a sump in place of liverock. I use it in my koi pond which has huge bio load factors. $70 dollars for 3 cubic feet which equates to 180 sq ft of surface area? That is a lot of places for critters to grow and thrive.

IMO it would become a nitrate trap like bioballs and filter floss. You would get a lot of detritus and suck collecting inside of it.

so how would this be any different in your sump then LR if it is coming after your Filter sock and Skimmer. Plus rinsing this would be a piece of cake.

in the pond I rinse every 6 months because of the large amount of "stuff" that clogs it and I am running it through @ 2900gal/hr or more. So I would think 1x year mix up some water and rinse. you wouldn't kill the critter then and if it looks good leave it. I just think that looking outsicde of the box moves the hobby along.
