savvy TV folks tune in here

You can get discounts from TWC by threatening to leave. I do it every year. This year I might actually do it. The latest is now we can't use that great feature they recently introduced that when you skip through the commercial and press play, you automatically go to the start of the next segment of the show. It was great. That along with the recently introduced cable box charge is about the end for me. Throughout the years the problems just get worse and worse. I have a PC with HDMI so I might consider the network streaming option. How does that work? Do the networks stream the same content as the regular TV? I already use my PC connected to the TV for Netwflicks.

I will be calling TWC in the very near future.
We've had channels NOT available when they're supposed to be and "freeze frame" happens quite regularly. I'm not happy.
I only use about a dozen channels and I do like having them in "hi def": 5 or so "local" affiliates, MSG, ESPN, NatGeo, NatGeo Wild, Animal Planet, Science, and the kids watch that Walking Dead show on some other channel (AMC?) but I'm ready to strip it down to basic TWC cable / internet and look into other alternatives.

It's obvious to me that TWC CSR's on the phone don't want to help "talk you down" to less expensive options.

I've never seen streamed content to a HDTV like my Samsung so I'm not sure how clear the picture is. I'm not a huge TV viewer. I hardly ever use my DVR (I used it 4 times in one year. If I miss any game.. oh well... I miss it. I only watch live sporting events.)
Gimme the nightly 6-7PM ABC news in HIDEF and Sabres hockey games and I'll be happy- everything else is icing on the cake.

I'm not shy about consulting someone that knows more about this than me.
I just want to do it right the first time.

Gary,
If you want to stream through your PC, you might want a new one.

We dropped TWC in October and haven't looked back. We stream our televisions through Roku boxes (one wireless, one ethernet). I had plans to upgrade my PC, but frankly have no need for our viewing habits.
I pay $7.99 apiece each month for Netflix streaming and Hulu plus. We also have an Amazon Prime membership which has tons of content plus tons of other benefits.

If you have good Verizon wireless coverage at your house, consider a Straight Talk home phone. It's $100 for the unit and $15 per month unlimited talk time. You can keep your exisiting phone number as well. (While we're talking about saving $$$, I switched my cell phone to Straight talk as well. Bought the phone for $150 and pay $45 a month for unlimited talk, text, and data. No contract no early termination fee. And the phone uses the Verizon network.)

Telling TWC, Frontier, and Verizon to kiss my backside=priceless. :)
