SC Aquariums Owners Thread

My impression is that the balls aren't effective enough since they don't have enough surface area for denitrification. Would base rock work for this ?

I have marine pure balls and plates in my refugium. I have a minimalist aquascape which is why I chose this route. Not sure what would make you think the balls are not effective, they have crazy surface area. My tank cycled without any issues.

I used the stock sump SCA supplied with their 80G PNP system, but I cut out all the baffles and reassembled to my liking.

With that said, I have my drain going into a filter sock, and my skimmer in one section. Then my fuge section with 2 marine pure blocks and a big ol'wad of chaeto. An over under bubble trap, then my return pump.

Is the chaeto encased (filter bag) or just floating in the sump?

hey guys, I post this on the SC FB page did not get much of a response so i'll post here.

wondering how everyone is placing there PH to get the best flow? what is your experience? i have the 3' -90 gal with one jeabo PP8 flowing across my rock work from right to left. but thinking about adding another for 2 on the back wall pointed to center of tank.

I am going to re-aquascape to get some more sand room and use the depth of the 24" tank. man I so wish I could have done custom to get the big A$$ over flow box out.

anyway show my how you found best to place your PHs.

cheers

I'm in your boat, still working on placement. Currently I have the 150 and use the Neptune Wav. I have them on either side about half way up pointing toward the center of the front glass. Haven't seen any dead spots, but am not sure the coral love it either...

I am still debating on what Wave pumps I want to use on my 150 . How do you like the Neptune wave pumps?

I have WAVs on each end on the side glass, 2 PP8 on the back glass angled to front center, and my returns angled to front corners. I have a couple deadspots due to my rockwork but those also seem to be snail and hermit feeding stations so I am not concerned.

I like the WAVs for their apex integration and I use the 1link module for my DOS as well. I would like them to be smaller but overall very happy witht he purchase. My gyre 130 just sits in a box at this point...though soon to be sold I guess if honest.

I like them quite a bit. IMO if you have an apex, they are a no-brainer purchase. Very intelligent pumps and they move a ton of water. I also like the different "programs" you can use with them throughout the day. This way some of the things in your tank can get very good movement, while not blowing everything around all day. I like SP's idea of some back pumps, but have not needed to do this yet.

I thinking prob the best bet for me and my wallet is to add another PP8 witch was/is my original plan.
but got to thinking about the cross flows? anyone have them? feedback?
deferentially going to do a bit to research on them...

I switched to the wavs from the gyre. I like the gyre but since nondirectional you can have some deadspot issues. Also need at least 2 to antisync and probably another ph or two to ensure full spread.

I actually have a 130 for sale for 150 which would allow you to twst it out and resell if you didn't like it

Ya, my though right now is to use a gyre 130 on the middle back wall - pushing water down, then two mp 40's or RW8's in the back corners pointing to the front center.

You can aim a LOT more with RW then the WAV so keep that in mind as you look at your rockwork and such. The WAVs are limited in angle. While they have some it is limited. I found it to be perfect amount when on the side glass for my setup though.

Seeing the new gyre controller and line out if I were to do it now I would have 2 gyre 150 (which is now 230 I think) and 2 PP8 on the back wall to clean up deadspots. Run the gyres at antisync with periods of them both on to smash water into one another and add confusion and you have a great setup.

hey guys i am setting up my new 90g i have been waiting on a new sump from the 80g tanks since they build my stand wrong and the stock sump for the 90g wont fit so Steve gave me a great deal on the radion xr30w pro that i couldn't turn down so i was wondering if any one here has tried to mount one inside the canopy you get if u get the solid wood stand i have an idea how i will mount it but i think it will put it to close to the water level so just want to get some input on this

Cant say weight but I can tell you 2 of us were struggling with my 150 (ok mainly me as the other guys is a body builder) We got it moved but it was not easy and would have benefitted greatly with a third person.

I cant imagine the 120 is significantly less weight...
