schooling green chomis with predator fish?

You all are arguing about tank size and certain fish. Check out the post in this forum titled "new pics" by mta. After seeing those pics, a 150 looks plenty big for some of your fish picks!

Green Chromis

Green Chromis

I am not arguing. I myself like the Chromies....They are not mean at all which can be to their detriment. I have four with a Bluelined Trigger. And one with a Queen Trigger. The Queen gives chase. But I try to keep the Triggers fed. As I said you can go with Chromies if you consider them to be expendable.
I started out with 15 Blue fin Damselfish in my 180, and I am down to 3. They are just mean little buggers. They kill each other. They attack new fish introduced into the tank even Triggers. But I have a Tesselata Eel in my 180. He does not bother the Damsels, and the three of them seem to be sticking around. I only bought the 15 of them to make it so my Triggers would not hide all of the time (when I had Triggers in that tank).
I am experimenting now with keeping Chromies with my Triggers. I'd like to own about 40 of them between two tanks. I think they are cool.

A tank full of Chromis would look great. I have also been thinking off adding 20-30 fish to my tank. Will add a whole new perspective to the tank. Even 20-30 blue devils or a mixture of both would be nice (but maybe too much agro in mixing them)?

There is a good chance they will kill eachother, they are very territorial, I put 10 in my 225 when I first set it up, and I have 1 left. Small schooling fish get aggressive in our tanks, even big home aquariums are nothing compared to the ocean.

Are you talking about Green Chromis being territorial? I have never heard that. But it has been said that Damselfish like the Blue Devil are terrible. I think Green chromis are supposed to be pretty docile, and love to school. I know that my 15 Bluefin Damsels killed each other down to 3. but my Chromies do well in a group, and rarely leave each other. Where as my Damsels fight for territory between themselves, and other fish. I think you must have been referring to Damsels, and not Chromies.

No I am reffering to the blue green chromis. They are more docile than damsels but they do definatley pick each other off. Keeping a good size school of them can be difficult.

I use to keep a school of 12 green chromis in my 90 with 2 baby bamboo sharks and slowly they all diapeared. I also use to keep clownfish with a powder blue grouper and they all dissapeared. So to answer your question from my point of view i think you can do it but just be aware of what could happen.

You mean that the Green Chromis pick each other off? I know that Damsels do, but I thought that Chromies were supposed to from schools, and not pick each other off. Do they pick each other off (Chromeis I mean)?

Blue green chromis DO pick eachother other. Its a known fact that they do, you usually end up with a very small school of what you had. Some people start with 10 or so, and end up with 3 or 1 sometimes.

Damsels

Damsels

That is how it is with my Damsels. Thanks for the tip about the Chromis because I thought I could buy 20, and only lose them to other predators, and not each other.

If you are going to put any damsels into the tank, put them first. I had four Sargent Majors in my tank before I put in my Humu and Snowflake. I lost the two smallest of the SMs but the other two have held up well!!! They even fight back with the Humu!!!! The have been living with the Humu, Snowflake, as well as a yellow tang and soon a Lion. I think you will be ok. Just make sure you are able to deal with the inevitable (only the strongest from the school will survive!)

My Damsels are Bluefin Damsels, and they can be a menace once they get a strong foothold in the tank. Mine have attacked Triggers that I have tried to introduce into their tank. I don't think I will use them again to start a tank. Just because of their fierceness. I like them though. And I like the Chromis too. Here's a PIC of the Bluefin Damselfish.

try some fusilers if you want larger shoaling fish. Casio teres does fairly well in captivity. Around here they call them "beautiful fusilers". These are fast moving fish that get around 8 inches in length so they can take some abuse, but nothing will survive some triggers and a big enough lion/eel:)

I did an online search. I found these yellow back Fusiliers. So here is a type of the fish that you are talking about....pretty cool IMO

There is a good chance that the Damsels will become lunch,I have only 55 Gallon Tanks for my Groupers and Triggers they seem fine. When they grow to large I trade them in at my local fish shop and get smaller Triggers or Groupers.

There is another post on this site that a guy caught schooling fish off the coast of Florida that he added to his tank.
It was a couple of days ago...

The yellowback fusilers look like the "Beautiful fusilers" that I bought. They are quite cool, active and a little nicer looking than chromis.
