Schreiba's 83g Miracles Rimless [40x24x20]

Well after having my ADA 60-f for over a year and a half now, I've really gone crazy with buying SPS and wanted to go just a little bit bigger I also got tired of cleaning the MAME overflow and wanted to have a better setup for growing SPS. I feel the larger volume of water will make it a lot easier to keep my parameters stable and will allow to me to actually get some fish!

I contacted Miracles in Canada a few weeks ago and they have begun building my tank with an expected arrival date of sometime in late October, early November. It will be a rimless 40x24x20, starphire front, and corner overflow with two drains and one return. I've started piecing together some equipment but will also use some of the equipment from my ADA. I have a lotttt of ideas floating around in my head so I'll continue to update this post when I buy new equipment, do some DIY's, etc. Thanks for looking!!

That's exciting! I am considering virtually the same tank. I'm curious if there is anything special you have to go through ordering a tank from Canada? Did you also order the stand from them? I am quoting Reef Savvy and DSA currently.

Thanks!

Nope, just contacted them through email and worked out all the details. Hopefully the tank will be here around the end of the month. I am planning on building the stand myself so I didn't ask them. I got quotes from a local builder and Coast to Coast but went with Miracles mainly due to the quality of their tanks that I've seen posted on here.

that looks amazing
Thanks MimicOcto!

Wow, that will be nice. Any reason you are going with an internal overflow versus external? So you can get it closer to a wall?

i cant wait to see what you can do with 83 gallons. What you have done with 6 gallons is amazing....
Thanks epleeds, I'm not going to know what to do with all the space! :P

Thanks jroovers! And yeah, also if there's a small leak it's more likely to drain into the sump rather than the floor, but to be honest I didn't really research/consider an external overflow very much.

Will u be doing two MHs? Btw. Reef savvy does an amazing job.
Right now I'm planning on just doing one 250W in a Lumenmax elite reflector. If it doesn't seem like enough I'll have to decide whether I want to add another halide or maybe add some DIY LEDs to the fixture. And I know I wish I had gotten a quote from them too!

Why not just do two? 40" is pretty wide for that reflector.

I just ordered a similar tank from Miracles and I am deciding on my lighting as well. Do you think one halide only will be enough? My tank will be 36x24x20 and I am thinking about a single halide fixture with built in T5s.

Yeah I just looked and it said it'll cover a 2'x2' area so it would be better to have two halides, especially if I want to be able to keep SPS all over the tank. Thanks for the suggestion!

That's awesome and is almost the same! I think Gadgets suggestion is a pretty good one and would strongly consider two.

I think you can get away with one bulb in a 36" tank. Just raise the fixture a little higher than normal.

Just ordered an MP40! Also discovered that since I'm using 1/2" glass I won't be able to reuse my MP10 I'm hoping between the MP40 and the return I'll have enough flow though, at least initially.

Also been weighing my options as far as a new skimmer/sump goes. Been giving some thought to buying an external skimmer and keeping the sump I have now instead of going the new skimmer and sump route. I really like the avast marine CS-2 but I'm worried it might be overkill for a tank this size. Any opinions/thoughts?

Nice tank dimensions. Can't wait to see it all done and running. I am going to have the same problem with my mp10 situation as the new tank I'm going to get built has thicker glass and my mp10s will no longer be of use. I think you probably will be okay in the beginning with the mp40, but as the sps fill in the tank you may find you need another one.

I currently run 1 MH 400 watt of my 36x20x21 tank and it barely lights the sides so I def would go with two and supplement with t5s for that extra color pop.

Good luck with the build
