SCMAS asking for help: We'd like to borrow your EZ-up canopies for Reef-A-Palooza!

Hi everyone,
As the title says...The SCMAS Steering Committee is asking for volunteers to loan us your EZ-up canopy for Reef-A-Palooza on Saturday, Aug. 19. We need about 20 or so in total.

We are asking for volunteers to please either:

1) Bring the canopy with you to the SCMAS meeting on Friday, Aug 18. (to give to a steering committee member the night before)

or

2) If you are not going to the meeting but still want to participate, alternatively drop it off at my house in Garden Grove near 22 frwy and Beach Blvd
(Another drop-off location in Santa Ana can also be arranged)

Please do not suggest that you will bring your canopy to the event on Saturday.... this is simply not feasible for us for a variety of reasons.

Please PM me if you have one available for us to use
Thanks for anyone that can help :)

Kevin,

SCMAS can use my 12' x 12' EZ-Up, however I will be on vacation from August 12-19. I plan on coming back in time for the event, but both of the situations above don't work for me. If anyone is coming from LA to Kevin's house, they could drop by my place in La Mirada & pick it up. LMK...........

Steve :D

Thanks Steve! I'm sure there is someone in your area that can help us out with the transfer. Someone please PM me or Steve about this if you can help out. He is in LaMirada and I am in Garden Grove.

To everyone:
This is one thing I should have mentioned in the first post:

SCMAS and Marine Depot has gone through TREMENDOUS effort to bring this event to the local community FREE OF CHARGE!
Other events such as the Coral Farmers Market had to charge a $25 entry fee to cover their costs. These canopies are very important since the event is outdoors with people exposed to the summer sun; we need shade desperately (renting canopies is rediculously expensive, so not an option for a free event)

The success of Reef-A-Palooza 2006, and planning of future events, depend on your cooperative effort. PLEASE help out if you have to capacity to do so!

:)

Kevin,
I'm not a SCMAS club member, or a member of anything lol. But I'd like to help out. I have access to two canopies. I'm wondering who will be responsible for them? Will you be bringing them back to your home for the lender to pick up?

-Isaac

hey kevin i live in buena park that should be like 5 minutes from steve. If its ok with you steve i can pick it up sometime this week and bring it to the scmas meeting on friday. lmk

Thanks Isaac,
Yes, you have a very valid concern.
The canopies that are dropped-off at my house will be taken to the next steering committee meeting (the Thusday before Reef-A-Palooza) so they can be set-up for the event. SCMAS will take responsibility. I will then collect those that were dropped off at my house to bring back so they can be picked up at the same location.

Those that are dropped off at the SCMAS meeting can make arrangements with one of the Steering Committee members that are collecting them. We will take good care of the canopies.

Thanks Angel,
that would be a great help.

I almost forgot....those of you who are lending canopies, could you please place some kind of indentification on the canopy so we can keep track of who's-is-who's. This can be in the form of a sticker, permanent ink, masking tape, etc. We also would like your phone number so that we can arrange pickup sometime after the event.

I planned on bringing mine to the event for use by myself, NicoleC and ScothMaster.

I was assured we had a reserved spot.

Chris, you are correct
Vendors and hobbiests alike who are reserving spots for selling/trading goods are encouraged to bring their own canopy.
The only drawback is...if you wish to wait until the day of the event to bring your canopy, then you'll have to get there early in the morning (I don't have a time frame yet)
All setup must be done BEFORE the event starts for multiple reasons.

If I were you I'd simply give the canopy to a steering committee member sometime on/before Friday night (with your name on it) and have them do the setup for you. You might also wish to contact Ben and make sure he has you on the grid map for a space. I personally won't be there neither Friday nor Saturday but I am coordinating/helping as much as I can between now and that weekend.

All setup must be done BEFORE the event starts for multiple reasons

this is a little unreasonable and unrealistic, at least for hobbyist traders.

Past events we were able to show up one hour prior.

I will cease my 'shooting of the messenger' and take it up directly with the organizers.

Thanks Kevin.

Wow, I didn't know this was going to be the case. I agree with Chris that those selling frags unfortunatly are always late. Always! Especially me! Always! Hopefully everything goes smooth.

Well, Ok....Let me explain further:

There will not nearly be enough EZ-ups for the size of this event. We have maybe a dozen promised thus far. The plan (so far) is to attach tarps between alternating canopies so that we have a continuous string of shade protection. But, we obviously need the capopies beforehand to set this up.

Another reason is....we don't want people showing up "during" the event and proceeding with setting up their canopies and gear amongst the chaos. It interferes with the entire program.
On the other hand, we don't want to discourage people from participating, so.....
We will try to work with you guys. We just need as many EZ-ups avialable as possible --> at the time of setup. Nothing is "set in stone" at this point.

This event is FREE & people are donating thier time & businesses so we can hold and attend this FREE event. The least we can do (especially people that are planning on making money at this event) is follow along w/ the coordinator's rules. If it means as a seller, you must get thier early, then get there early. I'm almost sure sellers were not setting up after opening at the Coral Farmers Market & that cost $25 to stick your head in the door. Lets just work together & pull this off w/ as few problems as possible...........

JMO....................

Steve :D

Edit: Not attacking anybody individually, just trying to help out others that are donating thier time so we, as reefers, can have the best possible event.

Me and sharkdude will be there early to setup the day of the event Im possitive...I live like 5 miles from marine depot and have a ton of frags to setup...What time are we aloud to get there?

Ima always willing to help out. I don't have a tank right now but I have 2 canopies that you can borrow Kevin. If someone's coming to pick up from SteveOhh they can swing by my house in Whittier(La Mirada Blvd/Leffingwell). LMK if you want to borrow them.

Thanks Ed,
Yes we would very much like to borrow both of them

Is anyone picking up in that area that can volunteer to stop by Ed's house on the way to Garden Grove? Thanks for the help to whoever is available. I'll offer a free filter sock if that helps
Kevin
