Scotts Fairy Wrasse

Hi all,

I have a 160 gallon reef tank. At the moment I dont have any wrasses in this tank. The Scotts will be the only wrasse in there. My question is: I have a very aggressive "Pictichromis porphyrea" in my tank which is not rly kind to new fishes. So the Scotts I can get is about 4.75 inches (12 cm). DO you think this is getting a problem for me or the wrasse?

I dont know if the Pictichromis is aggressive to such a "big" fish.

IMO, you and the Scott's will have a problem. Probably best to remove the dottyback for awhile and let Scott's adjust to tank... And give you time to decide if you really want to keep dottyback, that is aggressive to new fish!
 
The problem is that I cant catch the dottyback out if my tank. He is way to fast and I would destroy my whole reef. ANd I dont know if a dottyback swims into a fishtrap.

Do you think the 5cm dottyback will really harm the 12cm scotts?
 
If you cut back on feeding for a few days, any fish should go into a trap with food in it.
IMO , no fish likes to be harassed by another fish, big or small. Often the new fish will hide and not eat to avoid the harasser!

Get rid of the dottyback! FWIW... Scott's can be very aggressive also!
 
Hi all,

so the Scotts is now in my tank. The dottyback did not even try to harass the wrasse. He is like stoned since the scotts is in my tank :).

He is very interested in everything and it seems to be a very social fish.
Does anyone know if I can put a female scots fairy wrasse into my tank later?

They just had a male :(

but it is hard to get a female here in switzerland. You guys in the USA have a lot more fishes and very low prices for them.
The scotts is extremly rare in switzerland/germany.
 
Most if not all fairy wrasses are usually fine with other species males, and females of their own.

I have a large male exquisite who was there first in with a male mcCoskers and a male solar, a lubbocks, a cleaner, and a melanuris. No problems at all and some of those are actually quite similar. And it is only a 150g. Did not use an acclimation box and they were added at different times.

And I should add the neon dottyback that is with them, I've never seen harass anyone and very much keeps to himself. He retreats anytime another fish comes near him.
 
I want to add a female. But is it necessary to find the same scotts? Mine is from Fiji and not an aussi. Does my male only accept fiji scott?
Plus I want add some other wrasses like laboutei and lineatus and if i find aurantidorsalis.

Should that be a problem?
 
Region does not matter; any will do.

As for adding more wrasse, that's quite risky with Scott's. They are THE most aggressive Cirrhilabrus, and typically will not tolerate other wrasses.
 
Do you think the scotts will be that aggressive when i add some new wrasses asap? the scotts is in my tank for 3 days now.. Does he kill every wrasse or only cirrhilabrus?
