Scrolls - tell me about them

Saw a nice mustard colored one online and would like to purchase it. Don't have much info as to how hard/easy it is to keep them, compared to acros and montis.

Please give me some info.

Thanks

Scroll could be alot of things. post a pic and we can help you out. More than likely, it's probably turbinaria

Yup, Turbinaria reniformis(sp?) Pretty easy to keep. Alot of the yellow ones are dyed though. IME, I would say as easy, or easier to keep than montis.

I really liked the mustard color. Is it ok to place that next to a monti, so that you have layers of monti and a layer of the scroll next to each other?

Thanks

I have two, both close to monti's.

Don't seem to bother each other although I had one monti "reach out and touch" the scroll and attach to it. Still kalking it to kill it!

I've found the Ruffled Ridge (scroll) to be hardy but not a fast grower in my tank.

It does appear that the healthier they are, the darker they get.

The one in the picture seems a little stressed as mine was like that when I first got it.

Now, the colony is a dark mustard with brighter yellow polyps and bright yellow edging on the colony.

indeed, dark=better for this coral. I had one as well. SLOW grower in my tank too.

There is a nice pinkish variety around as well.

i have a turbinaria - have had it for 6 months or so and its doing great. definitely one of the easier SPS corals to keep and they add a nice little splash of color :)

I have had this one a little over a year, doubled in size. Has always been this color (even lighter in person). Polyps are not usually out during the day, but are the same color anyway.

DaddyJax - that is very nice!

DaddyJax,

Your turbin is awesome! Perfect example of a healthy specimen! That my friends, is what you want it to look like!

again awesome. I'm going to have to get another one soon.

I agree it one of the easier corals to keep. Here's mine ..it started as a frag from the mother colony which I sold because it just grew too large.
