Years I have wanted a cube.
I finally have the opportunity too so I am taking the plunge.

After consulting a lot of people on different hardware, shopping many custom builders I am ready to take the plunge.

I have to say that without Steve's (Jar*Head's) immense help I wouldn't be far along.
He has been invaluable, especially hooking me up with a builder (getting me a great price) and the design of the back wall.

We have talked a TON over the last couple of weeks about builders, equipment and most of all...DESIGN, DESIGN, DESIGN!

I have decided on a 60" Wide, 48" Deep, 24" High Cube-esque tank...with some major customizations.

I want to say that this will be a Barebottom tank.

First plan...the bottom.

All of the hles are to fit 1" Bulkheads for a Closed Loop.
The flow will alternate via an Ocean Motions 8 Way.

Here is the back wall.

In the Tunze Stream compartments...there are 2 Streams per compartment.
The only part of the Stream protruding will be the intake screens.

The overflow contains 4, 1.5" drains.

I am proudest of my Detritus Drain.
I have a plan for a PVC bar an inch above the back seam of the tank (left to right) with large holes drilled into it.
My flow will (hopefully) push all detritus to settle along that back seam.
By opening the Ball Valve, behind the tank, the detritus should be automatically sucked up and drained into a container.

All 3, 1" are purposefully in the upper right corner to bring all flow to that side.
Most of the bottom closed loop outlets will be directioned in such a way as to move the water to the back left, trying to get a circular pattern.

The back outlets of the closed loop will be angled slightly upward towards the overflow box pushing particulates over it to the skimmer and sump.

Sean, thank you so much for the kind word. I hope everything will work out well for you and the new setup...

Instead of an 8-way, have you considered two 4-ways and a pair of Super Darts? I think you'll appreciate the redundancy and energy efficiency.

Super Darts?
Are they different than the Dart?

Just googled and found it.
Thats 4,300 gph coming out of 2, 1" pipes.
I don't know if that size pipe can handle that much flow without loss.
May be a bit overkill. :)

Great dimensions and plans for flow! I plan to do the same tank in a couple years. Definitely gonna be tagging along with your build.

what skimmer are you going to run?
Right now I am just going to transfer my Deltec AP702 to the existing tank.
If I find I need more I will either add a second skimmer or sell this one and go with a bigger.

I just checked my online statement.

Spent WAY too much at Bulk Reef Supply. :(

Gets here tomorrow though. :)

Congrats Sean,

I must say that your detritus drain is ingenius.

Is your tank gonna be glass or acrylic and who's the builder?
