Serpent star ate a snail

Is this a normal occurence?

I fed my serpent star this morning 2 small pieces of squid, just dropped them on the sand bed close to where he was. A nassarius snail got to one of the squid pieces first. By the time the serpent got to it, the snail wouldn't let go so the serpent picked both the snail and squid up and shoved them in, and off he went. Any chance that he would have spit out the snail before digesting? I couldn't see him very well when he went into the rocks.

Do I just need to hand feed the guy to save my nassarius snails (because they love the squid too)?

BTW, the nassarius snails are the most fun to watch of any of the snails, especially when there is new food in the tank.

I fear you've lost a snail. Some serpent stars will take to fish, as well. You may have to stand guard with a long feeding probe and ride herd while feeding.

I think it's the greens that are badly behaved.
