Seven year old hippo tang went nuts, into eating clams all of a sudden!

I have had this hippo tang since it was a little over an in ich long. It is a tank raised fish. Yesterday it decides it likes the taste of clam! It has taken six small bites out if it. I hate to sell it to a store and have it killed in someoneââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s thirty gallon tank, but I can't let it eat my clams. I just hope it was a fluke and he will forget how tasty the clam was. What should I do? Give it a week and see what happens. Or get it out as soon as possible. He is a perfect fish, fat healthy and eats out of my hand. :(

Well if you want to take a chance give him a week but I would remove him as he'll probably continue with the behaviour. A friend had a similar experience with a Hippo, he was in his reef for five years all of a sudden he developed a taste for Trachyphyllias and had to be removed.

The hippo won't go, he's smarter now, he knows what a trap is, so I removed the clams. They were nice.:( Oh well, I needed more room for sps. :D

Gobie you made the right choice . Besides you and the hippo have a history . Though I like clams I can't get one the critters would have a field day. Anyways good job. :beer
