Shallow reef build

So we ended up going with 3 blue plus and 3 coral plus to keep the color even. Another bubble algae outbreak after the massive cleaning so we will have to do another. I am going to start running the gfo in a reactor again and feeding heavier. We added one more 40 breeder so we can move all the lps to it and open up some room for the zoas to grow. So now we have one tank for each type of coral all on the same sump. I hooked up my life reef/skimz skimmer I modded. I am running it recirculating with an iwaki 55rlt and a mag 7 supplying it. They cheato died out after adding this skimmer and it is out performing the reef octopus 10 fold. I added a dosing pump for all, cal, and mag. We needed it since I added my sps tank and now the lps/nem tank.
Here come some pics of the changes.

I guess I will end up putting pics of the other tanks in the appropriate coral forums so I don't clutter the los forum with sps and such.

It's a great tank! Really looks good. I dig the shallow tanks with a lot of real-estate to place corals.
How long was the total build and time to establish?

Build was quick, a week or so because the stand and tank were already done, just lots of holes drilled for the closed loop. Started with dry rock so it took about 5 months to become stable.

Yea the space fills up quick though! We are constantly moving things into the other tank and cutting large pieces off colonies to make more room for stuff to grow. The build took about a week, just drilled lots of holes for the closed loop and made the sump. The tank was already made with the stand so that was all I had to do. The tank was stable about at about 5 months, the dry rock took a while to sit in. Although we had corals in there earlier it wasn't really established til later. Our dream is to have one really large tank when we move next. Hopefully something like a 6-8' by 4' by 24 or 28" high. Our last mixed reef 210 gallon turned out amazing and had lots of nice colonies and big fish. We are experimenting with leds now too so that should be fun!

love that lepto :)

Yea the price tag is rediculous but we got ours for free from a friend who had it in a zeo tank which wasn't working out well. Its recovered very well! Its our first one. We would never afford it if it wasn't free. The yellow/green in it is turning out nicely.
We have some nice new litho plate corals that are turning out nice, I need to get as pic of thoes up.

Everything looks awesome. Thinking about starting a shallow reef myself. Right now have 30 rimless and looking for a change.

Not sure what these are but they are the brightest I have ever seen. They make everything in the tank look dull!

So many different colors!
You guys are lucky to be able to have those eye candy zoas there!

Good job, Piper27!

Grandis.

No I am lucky to have a girl that keeps them to grow out and not frag them! That's the rare thing! I think we are about to pop on a new fish purchase to knock the bubble algae back as well. What a pain that stuff is in this tank...

Well, if you didn't have them available to purchase, like we don't have here, not even the most beautiful girl in the world would be able to let them grow to colonies. :D

But yes, I appreciate the fact that she likes the colonies!!!

Grandis.

Tanks are doing well. I took out the sand bed last weekend which went well. Everything looks good but I will have to mount the chalice colonies on larger tiles so they stop sliding around into each other. Still stumped on why there are microbubbles still. It's irritating some of the zoas. :(

Seems like the zoas are happier now that the sand is gone. We got rid of a lot of polyps to make room too. There is a pretty good mushroom collection happening on the backside of the rocks too. All the acans and such are doing great, along/ with the sps in my tank and the lps in the other tank.
