Shallow reef build

Do you find that your Magicians have a yellowish skirt? Mine have a nice yellow forming on the skirts on some of them.

This one maybe but it's not a magician from what I can tell.

She also collected magician frags from different places because they had a habbit of melting. Now we have a few decent colonies. Definatly one of my favorites!

I use tapatalk to post pics with my phone, and since i started using this new phone the pics are smaller and have that mark on them. I guess to show you can enlarge them, can everybody enlarge them and see a better pic by doing so? Not sure how to post pics without them.

Oh ok, I see the "T". Tank looks good, I like to use photobucket. Bigger pics:)

Yea i just do a thorugh cleaning once it gets bad, the tank is too small for one of thoes. I could get a baby but not sure it would eat it at a young age, any experience?

No problem, you can get a baby. It will eat.
Once it grows you can exchange with the LFS or give to a friend.
I have one in my 75 for a long time. They are great pets!!!
The fish will control the algae, but won't eradicate it.
They just can't reach some of the small crevices where the algae can be.

I dont think it is normally something they are meant for but my emerald crab did go after the few pieces of bubble algae I had in my tank, and from the theories(read not fact) the crabs have the ability to eat the whole BA not releasing the spores which can happen with other methods.

Im sure the Tang will work as well, but depending on how much you want to spend, how much room you have for the tang and if you want to deal with giving it away or trading it for store credit later....again this is just a theory, I only ever had small outbreaks of bubble during the first cpl months of the tank running and only have 1 Rose/red/ruby emerald crab but he does a decent job.

So it's actually not a theory, but a fact, right?
LOL!

Yeah, if works with the crab, why not?

We had good luck with certain tangs in our 210. Emeralds i am not a fan of too much but am leaning towards one or two to help manage it. I think most algaes come and go in stages, so i am not too worried about it. The random cleanings we do help us keep track of what we have and how healthy things are. There are so many spots we cant see with corals stuffed in them.

curious what your final light setup design is and how you like it. Im starting a 2' x 2' x 16" zoa/pally/acan/blasto/clove tank and am stumped on the lighting. Thinking all ATI blue + with some led supplementation for pop and dawn/dusk.

Any pics of the final canopy?
nice setup!

We actually just finished aquascaping and cleaning bubble algae, and i replaced a 1' led strip with a 3' reefbrite, which mounted so close to the tank makes everything really light up!! We ended up getting hamilton retro t5s, 4 3' bulbs and 2 2' bulbs, which are on the back in order to not light up the overflow box. I forget what bulbs we are running, but its time to replace them. And we are using at least one daylight bulb. We both are not fans of blue tanks by any means, plus feel like all corals do better with some white light.

I will update the fts and get a pic of the inside of the canopy tonight! Very excited about how the tank looks and has been running.

On another note, i broke down my sps system and tossed everything in a 40 breeder attached to her sump. Also added a 40 breeder to grow cheato and house more live rock.

We rushed everything back into the tank after the bubble algae cleanup, but it turned out good enough where I will probably leave it like this. The sea fans and gorgs are still ****ed off from being moved around.

These are the two 40breeders I set up, one to be a frag tank, which quickly became my sps tank when I broke my system down and tried to sell the coral. Obviously no one is too interested in sps right now... no actually it's just the opposite, everyone around here has sps and lots for sale so it seems I will be stuck with my addiction for a while longer. Oh well :)
I am putting a d120 over the refugium and using the white channel to grow the cheato.

What are the zoas nest to the captain america zoas in the pic? I have some of those and have been trying to identify them.

We are getting new bulbs and i want to know what bulb would fit with a 10k hamilton, but give me more of a pure white than the yellow. The reefbrite i added made the tank so much more blue i would like to even it out while adding a higher par bulb. We tried the next generation last time but its not white enough at all.

You're talking about HOT5, right?
I like the KZ Coral Light with ATI Blue Plus bulbs combo.
I personally don't think it's THAY crispy white, but was the only bulb closer to it.
The ATI Coral Plus is similar to the KZ Coral Light and less expensive, but a bit towards to the pinkish side.
