Shallow reef tank Club

Beautiful tank there Boboli...love the valleys in it. Very clean design underneath too. Do you have panels that you can take on or off as needed or is it always open like that?

ps- while I think your tank is very nice your avatar pic on the other hand would probably scare smaller children lol. ;)
Thanks for the reply !
I plan on putting panels just kinda fell off my to do list.

I will start.

48x27x14 rimless acrylic tank, the tank was made by envision acrylics and is 67 gallons, i have 20g sump with a deltec skimmer and eheim return pump.

How do you keep the bottom so clean looks awesome :eek1:

Well in those pics from 5 years ago the tank was new so I didn't do anything. But I am bare bottom currently and I use a scraper.

:wave:Nick way back in the start of the thread you said you had your tank shipped to Ohio? Where at in Ohio are you? I'm in Columbus Ohio

Need help deciding on a shallow tank

Need help deciding on a shallow tank

Im just about ready to pull the trigger on a custom rimless shallow tank that I have been wanting for several months now. I still havent completely made up my mind on the dimensions though and would like some help. Im nearly positive that I want a 4' tank as I think 5' will take up too much space. I was going to have it 2' wide but saw one recently that was 2.5' wide and really liked that size/look. Also I was going to have it 18" tall but am now wondering if I should go a bit more shallow like 15-16".

Its going to be a mixed reef tank and I will have bubble tips for now but later I want to start keeping carpet anemones in there. I would love to have S.gigantea but so far I have only seen brown ones available and may have to settle for S.Haddoni. Im going bare bottom for now but will have to add sand if I go the S.Haddoni route. Fish will just be limited to what a 4' tank is suitable for and reef safe.

Any feedback on going this shallow or wide would be very much appreciated because I've never had a shallow tank but I love having a top down view on a wide reef tank.

Definitely go with 18" high if you are going that deep. It will still look shallow. If going 2' deep, then 15-16" looks great. My tank is 52/26/19, and it doesn't look as shallow as I thought it would, LOL!

18" depending on how high you plan to make your stand is a nice working number imo and will still look shallow assuming you 'scape it correctly. My tank is 18" high and 3' wide and with a 2 step ladder I can reach anything pretty easy. You build a rock wall along the whole front however and it can destroy that illusion. Good luck on finding reef safe fish ;) I don't believe there is such a thing but that all depends on what you are trying to do with your tank.

Its about time I posted a picture of my shallow tank so I can join the club.

33g long (48x12x12)
15g sump
120W LED light x 2

Eventually, I would like to upgrade to a tank that is 96x24x16 or 96x30x18, but for now, this is my little piece of relaxation.

I went from a 20g to 55g to 48x24x16 star fire rimless

I love the shallow look but I am already looking to get a bigger tank again!

This time.....looking at a range o sizes....60-72x30-36x 20-22 tall

It never ends but I would say go as big as you think you would ever have, and then just a bit more :)

You pretty much described my tank demotions (48x30x14) here what mine looks like

How do you aquascape it to make it look shallow? I've kept reefs before so I have an idea of what reef safe fish I want, can keep but it still depends on if they will behave or not

do you think your current tank is too shallow? has this tank stopped you from putting something in there because it was too shallow? do you have a top down shot? what/how many water movers are in the display tank?

I've got almost the same questions for you but that looks really nice for being that shallow. I thought it would look too shallow when I read the 14 but I might go with 14/15 instead of 18 tall.

do you think your current tank is too shallow? has it limited you on anything you want to put in the tank? do you have a top down shot? what/how many water movers are in the display tank?

Thanks for the response guys, Im hoping to order this week if I get my tax return back, I cant wait!
