Sharp's 450g Plywood Build (finally getting closer)

Excellent work Mark. I’ve only explored the wood tank concept once in the past. This makes so much sense in this application. I admire your skills! Keep up the good work

Finished the light rack and got it hung this week. Still have to complete the wiring at the wall, but that will be a project for this coming week. Here's some pics of the light rack hanging.

Need to shine up my lumenarcs, they are way dusty.

This morning I ran power up for the lights. Should have done it when I installed the outlets originally, but didn't think of it at the time for some reason.

Also ran the bus wire for my controller up there. I'll have at least one, probably two, PC4's mounted up there for controlling everything.

This coming week I'll be working on a mounting board for my PC4's and ballasts. Hope to get it finished, and all my wires from the light rack connected. Then I can move on to the plumbing.

Well, I think it's about time for an update.

In the 9 months since last update, I've slowly got several things completed and now stand only a couple of weeks away from filling up.

We'll start with where I left off back in February.

Lighting ballasts and controllers were completed. I'll try to get a better one of everything later this week.

There are three (3) 400w lights controlled by the PFO HQI dual ballast on the left and the Icecap on the right. Other items that will be controlled by the PC4's include T5 lighting, moonlights, and fans.

Also got the plumbing started.

With 3 closed loops and a return that's feeding a manifold and frag tank, I definately had my work cut out for me.

By far, the toughest part of the entire build. I started out hard piping everything. Then decided along the way to try some flex PVC piping, and now I could kick myself for not using more of it in the beginning.

I think the plumbing part of this build aged me an extra 5 years. :spin2: The constant bending and stooping beneath the tank just about killed my back and knees, and the glue fumes had me walking in circles.

Anyway here's some very early plumbing pics. I'll get some more when I get home and post them.

The 2 returns at the front of tank (located on left in the pic) are the returns from the sump. The 2 on the right (or back of tank) are for CL3 (closed loop #3).

These four are returns for CL1 (closed loop #1).

That's all the pics I currently have saved to photobucket. I've got a lot more on my camera and plan to take several more when I get home. I'll try to get them uploaded to photobucket tonight or tomorrow and add some more updates.

Got a couple of surprises coming up that I think you'll like.

Did something with the inside of the tank, that I've never seen anyone with a plywood build do before. Not a new idea, but never seen on a woody, at least not by me. Anyway stay tuned.

This is completely awesome! I cannot wait to see it filled. Did you decide to do plywood because of the cost? I would love to do something like this. It is ingenious!
