Show me your BIGGEST softie show piece

Love it! I'm working on mine, but only in a 55. I'm gonna hate when they get too big, but have had amazing growth in a year. I love softies. I've got good growth shots, but nothing big as these to show off! Would love to have a green nepthea, but am pretty maxed out with 2 fingers, 2 devil's hands & a cabbage *sigh*.

Yep, it got huge (to me) LOL. All but the one devil's hand are larger than my hand now. I keep waiting for it to drop a baby, but it hasn't yet. I'd have to give it to someone if it did, just no more room for a 2nd one!

nice job SG... i have an empty 70 gal cube sitting here next to me... this thread is really making me want to get it up.... like tonight

I wanted to get one a few mths back but could not due to most of my rock more or less loaded. its really nice though. I see you really love leathers

Thanks wireefman, I know the feeling. We have a 140 sitting in the garage & my boyfriend wants it to be LPS/SPS :(.

I do love the soft corals, including leathers. Probably because they grow so fast & I get a much better sense of accomplishment out of seeing the changes LOL. I'm having better success with LPS in this tank than in my last, as well (I knew nothing back then), and it's satisfying to see the 2-head hammer starting at least 3 new heads already after just a few months. That, the green cup, and the galaxea corals will all go in the 140, though, so that will be satisfying to see them continue to grow. I'm betting he won't allow me to move a leather in there once it's up & running haha!

Im dating myself by posting these but I keep a few old pics for just threads like this! :lol2: The tank has long been torn down and I no longer have the softies in the photos, but they were fun to watch grow and fill in the space. The sarco was 24 plus inches across, the Devils Hand 24 inches and the gorgonian was at least 28 inches tall for the tank was 28H and when the Sea Swirl brushed by it the tips would stick out of the waters surface.

ok cool........................that tank is sweet. i love the gorgonians. And is that a big green polyp toadstool in the centre of the tank?

Not sure what you are refering to but there is not a green toadstool in the tank. The big sarrco is in the middle rear of the tank with the devils hand in front of that. The green towards the front is green star polyp. The growth in this tank was crazy...mostly due to the large fish population (close to 65 fish, 50 of which were anthias species) and the heavy feeding that went along with it. Fun tank for sure. I know sps are the rage right now but a nice softie tank is hard to beat for movt! I like to add color through the fish choices personally.

that coral is really sweet. Did the green star polyps start to overun any corals? Right now some of my GSP started to grow over my nice zoas so when i get back home i have to start to remove them

gsp has plus and minus. Grows well in most conditions and can fill in alot of space but can be problematic for the same reason. They can take over just about anything and getting rid of it can test your patience. I would rip out certain areas by the handful and just throw it away. Adds color but can burn corals also.
