this is my first time working with wood and iam finding this to be some amazing FUN!!! :bounce2::bounce2:

took me a little time but i love how it turned out!

i hope you can read it with the voice of the "Movie trailer Guy" Deep and with a lot of emotion

in the beginning there was 2x4

it evolved into a stand

as time passed it took form to becoming a Skinned stand

In the end the stand took on color and migrated to the house.

Thanks canesfan44 i really loved building the stand and canopy. i know what iam going to make better next time when iam building one. i have an idea for sliding out the side so i can slide my sump out if i put one under the tank. i have all my stuff in the garage.

Is that the Minwax "Gunstock"?I am doing a project in pine and my test panel came out really red, more than the color chip, just saying

Pine often takes stain in a very ununiformed way, I always use conditioner to try to get it to soak in more evenly, and even then it's a bit of a pain sometimes.
I always test strip from the same material I'm using to be safe.
Great looking build though, as most of the others I'm lookin at on here.

Dave,

It has it as a base. I added a little walnut to it to tone down the red of the stock "Gunstock" color as your right it is a bit red. I have a picture of my test board I can post in a little while for you.

I normally don't like custom mixing, but if you do, make enough to keep for later, touch ups/add ons and such.
And if you clear coat that will have an affect as well, usually darker, but just keep that in mind.

The European style concealed hinges are spring loaded. Not a lot of spring, just enough to hold the doors shut tight.

what type of hinges did you use on the top? also what type of glue do you use. i'm both a fish buff and a wood buff.

Here are a few pics of our stand. I made the stand and canopy out of oak, to mimic the rest of our furniture in the living room which is Broyhill Attic Heirloom.

Not sure what that poster used, but for euro door hinges I usually use Blum, and there is a cheaper copy I can't recall brand ATM.
For wood glue Tightbond 3 waterproof is best for us IMO.
