Show me Your Fancy STANDS!!!

If you go back a couple of pages you'll see mine and it is made with birch ...the stain is a mix of 2 different minwax but it almost looks like their cherry but I wanted a hint of brown in mine and it's finished with 3 coats of poly
as far as matching two types of wood in color....that's where polyshade comes in but only after a good top coat of clear poly has been applied and let dried and then buffed but you gotta know how to use it or it will flake off in a few months because it didn't bond well

Lunchbocket you could always go two toned for the paneling. Thats what i did with mine you can see it at the first of the split

I would agree, I think that instead of trying to match the stain colors on the 2 species of wood (many different characteristics with the 2"¦ meaning they won't take stain the same and the grain pattern would be obvious as well) just allow for a light and dark contrast. I'm trying to do that with a bunk bed I'm making for our kids (maple and walnut) got most of the maple done however, I'm just waiting for the price of walnut to go down a bit.

A bit of an example from 2 scrap pieces.

And then those 2 with a coat of tung oil to bring out the natural beauty of the wood grain.

Chknwing - I'll go back through and check it out. Good idea. Just not sure the wife will go for it. She's very symmetrical so it might be too off for her.

Sister - That is beautiful!

Here's mine. Still a work in progress. Two years ago, started as a custom stand and canopy. Added solar tubes for lights and framed in the whole thing. Still have to put the trim pieces on (it's only been 5 months, give me a break!!)

thanks!!! :D

the tank and the stand were a custom order. i cant take any credit for the design as it was the professional aquarium setter upper that did the whole thing. i do do my own maintenance though!

I know we have been only posting wooden stands, I wonder how many others have metal stands or any other type of material. Please post them here as well.

OT: currently this thread is only 8 votes behind, let’s try and make it a sticky :D
