Show me your large tank stands!

OK, I am about to start on my new 210g tank build for the home. After a lot of research, I feel comfortable enough that I have decided to put the thousands of dollars in power tools to use and build my own wooden stand. This is a stand that is going in my living room so I want it to be a piece of furniture, not a POS.

So show me your nice large reef tank stands and hoods so I can get some ideas on how to finish mine. I will have LumenBright lighting so the hood will be tall & I want to have good access for cleaning.

I also am considering having doors on the sides of the stand so I can get to everything that is going to be under the tank. (Calcium Reactor, refugium, etc) I would be interested in hearing what people who have done this think about it after using it for a while.

I am especially interested in seeing the trim work and how you finished off your fine work piece.

I have a pretty good idea of how I am going to build mine but I want to have one last look at what's out there before I start my build.

So show me those stands!

TIA.

Very nice ReefBum. Is the plumbing under the tank or in another room? I would be interested in seeing the doors open to see what type of access you have under the stand...

Keep them coming!

Here is the stand and canopy I did for my 210g. It has doors on the sides that open up for access:

and after I finished it and put finish on inside of the canopy. Stand is finished and painted the same

There are some really nice DIY stands here on RC that some people will post that will give you some great ideas.

Very nice Phyxius. What did you use to paint the inside of the hood? Was it a spray enable? It is as smooth as glass!

Agreed. I have seen some incredible stands in various build threads. I look forward to seeing them for any last minute ideas. (and just to appreciate them after that)

Thanks for sharing.

Here is my custom metal stand, all legs are removable...
Now that stand is built like a tank! I haven't followed your build thread - why did you make the legs removable? Was it to get it through some doors in your house?

to group: Don't forget to post a link to your build thread if you have one so we can check out more details!

Thanks Jar*Head. It will take me a while to read through your long thread but it looks awesome!

It was just done by brush with a few coats of Kilz and then some White marine enamel. Did it to all my last stands that I DIY . On my last one it went on 3 yrs ago and it looked like the day I did it when I took it down last month. No yellowing of the white at all and the salt residue always just wiped right off.

I guess I should do a frame shot too then before I did the side and doors

Thanks. All the plumbing is downstairs. The only thing that comes off on the stand is the front middle panel, which is attached with magnets. However, I never go in there.

I have seen the stand that Phyxius has built first hand and it is phenomenal!

I think that I will need to get up with him when I am ready to order my Marineland - Marine Series 200G. I would like a stand set up similar to his!

Ed, the stand need to come part to be able to fit through the door because the dimension is 103x48x44 and the weight is around 600lbs. It is impossible to lift it up and move :D

An in-wall wanna-be :D
Very nice dkh0331. Is that a faux paint finish or some other treatment?

That's what I thought. That's some fine workmanship - you can't even see where the panel comes off in the photos!

Wall papered, including the quarter round trim around the bottom the tank on the second pic. That was not fun at all to do - wall papering quarter round.

Sorry, just noticed that you were looking for pictures of wood stands. Nevermind!

Good luck!

I am building a wooden stand but would love to also see metal stands as well. Many times they are wrapped in wood so we can still share ideas on the finishing process.
