Wow! Now that's a quality looking finish. Since you have no equipment under the stand, do the doors actually open with shelves for storage?Originally posted by Ryan009
I've done 2 in-wall tank stands. The first was just regular 2X4 construction, OSB top and "skinned" facing.
Thanks Andy. I look forward to following your build.Originally posted by "Umm, fish?"

Here is mine. The tape is to hold the door shut when it was moved in. It has doors on each end also.

Znut Reefer,
Is that your 550g tank? That is a monster! Have you filled it with any SPS yet? I'd love to see some pictures when it's stocked.
Thanks for sharing.

Here is the stand holding my 400 gallon. It is basic 2x4 stud walls, with a 2x6 floor on top. Skinned on top with 3/4" ply and on the sides with 1/2" ply. The entire 6' x 4' area is open underneath and access to the inside of the stand is through the back, which is not skinned.

Very nice job. In my next house I am hoping to have a built in tank in one of the rooms. You tank is an inspiration to all.

That's one thing I haven't quite nailed down yet is the hood design - having doors or some other easy access. I plan on having the whole front swing open so I will have plenty of room for cleaning the tank every other week but that's not very practical for frequent feeding. I am thinking of smaller access doors but I don't want to add too much weight to the hood front since I have to swing it up for cleaning. I have a hood on my office tank that's like that and it makes some noise if I'm not careful when I open/close it. It also has to balance the stand, which will have four 15" doors.Originally posted by Ryan009
It's nice having the top doors open too as it's easy access to throw food in for "shows"
