Here's some of my young ones. I'm thinking about putting a big group into my 180 reef.

So just curious, has the term onyx been loosly applied to true percs that show more than normal black coloration? Or is there a true definition of what a black onyx perc should look like? I have read that certain individuals define a black onyx clown as the black coloration on the dorsal fin and in betwen each vertical white stripe. Anything less, according to sum, is not considered onyx. Is this idea just up to interpretation of the person, or is there an actual standard?

I would say that is a "onyx" but some really picky people may say its lacking a black dorsal but none the less a true onyx

his my onyx pair. my female is WC and the Male is a Rods Onyx. my camera skillz are lacking and they never sit still to smile.

Im not trying to be picky just trying to understand what constitutes as an onyx clown. It seems like people have different ideas on what a onyx clown is. Looking at these clowns one can really make the arguement that these clowns have more black than true percs. But if the people who consider true onyx to be all black between the stripes including the dorsal fins, then what are the percs that have all black between the stripes and an orange dorsal fin?

Onyx clowns are A.Percula with a lot of black between the stripes, dorsal fin, and sometime the tail.
My definition is
Onyx= all black between the three stripes
Super Onyx=All black between the three stripes and the dorsal fin is also black
If the clown doesn't have all black between stripes, I don't consider it between onyx. Though the black might come in later as the clown ages.

Found this. Dont know if its been posted before but here it is anyways.
