Hi everyone;

I'm getting started with drilling and stacking my live rock with fiberglass rods, and I'm looking for ideas on creating single or multiple pillars in your tank.
can I see some pics?

noteworthy points of interest are welcome, too i.e. how you set up the base, depth, drilling advice, etc.

i found a thread on this from 2006, but 90% of pictures aren't linked anymore.

Thanks in advance,

G.

towers, pillers, arches, branches of rock, ALL IS WELCOME

i'm looking to maximize the swimming space in my 120g without removing all the rock.

thanks again

yes, that's the thread I was talking about

no prob

I need pictures; all of my books at home have pictures in them so I don't get distracted

Yah, about that. Just some standard plumbing pipe I found. It's a bit wobbly in places but I placed supporting rocks around so there's zero chance of it falling over. I built 4 pillars as you can see in teh FTS and there's a big arch that you can't really see that protudes out from the right of the anenomes.

riosholo,,, i have heard several people using the fibergalss rods, but where do i find them? what are they used for other than pillars so i can track some down. i purchased some 3/8 acrylic rod but that stuff is way too flimsy, and i plan on having a 50 lb pillar so i am very hesitant to use the stuff.

i got some at home depot. I think they are originally for driveway markers. About 4' long with a reflector on the end.

i found them today. took me about an hour walking around looking, but that is exactly what i found was the reflectors on the fiberglass stake. the good thing is i believe they are 3/8" and i had already purcahsed a 3/8 drill bit when i bought the acrylic rod, so i am in luck.
thanks

Good luck drilling your Live Rock. I tried and ended with piles of rubble (no, not Russian cash). You need a diamond tipped hole saw.
