Lunchbucket,

How did you like the construction? I'm still waiting for mine in the mail so I can't comment on it yet. I have been very impressed with Bob the owner of Reefermania's response to emails. Very friendly and always there to answer questions. The close up pictures he sent me of my skimmer appear to show pretty good craftsmanship.

my g-3 is stock also with sedra 5000.

What water height is it sitting in . When was the last time you cleaned the needlewheel and venturi?

Also if you feel you want a slight increase in air volume then you can take a couple drill bits to the venturi air input and widen it a max of 3/16ths.

I just started at 1/8th and hand threaded it through then did the same with the 3/16ths.

This was what was advise by euro reef to some of their customers. I have done it on all my asm's and er's.

Okay, of all the skimmers presented, I want to order one from zapata. :)

I think Euroreef is the "dark side" these days, I think I need a Deltec now too so I can be part of the in crowd. LOL.

I actually am probably going to order one, I'll need another skimmer here soon for a planned FOWLR predator tank, and why not see how they work.

what i am not getting is why everyone is soo damn hooked on becketts and big power consuming skimmer. my skimmer draws in 120w total including the feed pump, and i get damn good skimmate out of it. so whats up with the places selling skimmers that use multi becketts, which yields no contact time, consumes 300+watts of power and most run loud. not trying to say that my skimmer design is the only way, but look at a cost of operation vs. performance standpoint. Even before i added the NW to my skimmer which also added 65w, i was very happy with the skimmer, was cheap to build and requires no real maintenance, i mean i havent clean the sir diffusers in over 6mo. only clean the cup every other day

see my point exactly, notice i didnt put the NW in a class with the beckets because the NW produces such nice foam and work so darn good when sized with an appropriate skimmer body.

I had a Aerofoamer 830 with a Iwaki 70 RLT after i replace the skimmer and take the pump out and i got my Deltec 851 skimmer the temperature of my tank got 4F lower and my electric bill when down $40 a month. I no longer need a chiller any more.

now compare them again, what was the air injected from the aerofoamer vs the deltec. probably not 40$ a month worth better right

Tim,

Pound for pound , Becketts do a better job . Getting darker skimmate just means theres more that needs to be taken out .

With that said , Needle wheels do a close enough job with a little less electricity .

I've had both , and If I was setting up an Large SPS tank with a good fish load I would use a beckett . For all else I would use a deltec .:D Both have a purpose .

JMO Miles may vary .;)
