Show of hands of where people will be

Vin, Thank you VERY much for doing the forum. Given the situation, it was a great idea - albeit, I would have hoped temporary, but, that is my thought only.

Again, thank you for the work you did - I definitely don't want to take that away from you. It was a good amount of work and it does look GREAT! :) :)

As for the dangers which RC may impose on us: I think we should have dealt with the issue at hand ourselves as we have in the past: We have gone through many stages, and each stage threw us a bone. We dealt with these bones mostly via PM's when discussion became too heated. I remember MANY times people chiming in (our own members) and ASKING some or all of us to cool down which we did and it worked.

My point again: if we can't deal with this type of situation here, what makes us think we will be able to do so somewhere else?

So, enough said from me on this subject. I am going to continue my work, get home late tonight, look into my tank which is infested with Red Hair Algae despite good parameters, and spend my time trying to figure out how to get rid of it ( do another water change ).

It is now clear that we have two opposing spectrums of opinion on censorship and vulgarity. Clearly it is going to take time and compromise to work that out. How about we all work towards making that happen rather than resisting what is going on?

I like what vin has to say here. We must work together to create our own space. With a group as big as ours we are never going to all see eye to eye, that is impossible. We now have a blank canvas to create as a group as we see fit. It is important to post your opinions no matter what side of the fence you may be on so we can keep it a group for the membership, not just for a few people. Please lets work together. An endevoer this big is going to take work to create something workable. Like an artists canvas it can either become something beautiful or something ugly, depending on the artist and the energy put in.

I have more I would like to post, just not the time right now.

Chris and Joe ... I think you guys are misunderstanding eachother.

I believe Chris is referring to the dead horse I've been beating about not outgrowing the ability to meet at member's houses and over formalizing things to the point of a small corporation. But please, let's not re-enter that conversation now.

I think we are all on the same page... We just need to pick 1 problem right now and work on that.

A new independant forum seemed like a good idea (and done very quickly and efficiently i might add) when we had no alternative, but now that the old forum is up again it gives us a chance to choose.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of each? Is having the ability to say whatever you want really a need to setup a new forum? Can't we just do a little give and take? We are all adults right?
No hard feelings toward Dave either. I'm sure his huor can be taken either way/.

I agree with no hard feelings towards Dave myself, but his humor is enjoyable or very much not enjoyable...

I posted before I had more to say, so here it is.

First I would like to appoligize to all the members that feel like they had no say in what has happened. I can understand you anger or hard feelings towards this topic. This is not a good situation for the group, but also something that cant be resolved. This whole situation definately upsets me, I have people I consider friend on both sides of the coin. When I started the thread that lead to this situation it was not my intent to cause so much conflict or division amongst the group. In my mind I wasn't trying to defend Daves post 100% either. I know it may not look that way, or if read it may not seem that way. My intention was to start conversation about us having a site where we can govern ourselfs. A site where we have input to what allowable and not. I'm not saying here that I think it has to be a site where we can run wild, bash people, say anything and everything. Thats wasn't my intension either. Threads take on a life of there own sometimes. I guess we will all interperet the things that happed that day in our own way for better or worse. Personally I hope we can make it work out for the better, and make it a place were everyone can be confortable and find it enjoyable. My intention was never to start any drama, it never is, I was only saying what was on my mind. Once again my sincere appology to all thoughs that felt slighted. I hope everything works out for the best for everyone.

Steve,
Well put. I understand completely and I think I can speak for most when I say that I just want us to figure something out that will work for most. Thats all.

How about them Yankees? everyone has a right to their opinion....mine is at this point to let it all go.....it's done and over...throw dirt and a flower in the grave and carry on....as far as blame...things got carried away....a snowball rolling.....the old adage of what is on my mind is on my tongue does not always work in public forums or situations....some people will never figure that out...most of us have...I will make use of both forums and see how it goes....thanks.Dave..CDMAS North

I frequent both currently. I do like the fact of having our forum since there are a few things that a probally better kept from public view (for example frag workshop details, sponsor issues or the like, proposed by-laws, etc.) We'll see where this ends but I'm here for all in the group

As oppose to debating the rules or structure of the new CDMAS forum maybe we could have the best of both worlds. Instead of trying to choose going one way or another would it be possible to setup 2 seperate boards under the same category title. A kid friendly section, and an unmoderated free for all section. I don't mean to volunteer your time Vin and you did a great job with the website. If it were something that would be easy to do though we could all likely benefit from it. So long as there is a mutual respect between members to post and reply appropriately depending on which forum they're in, people could have unrestrained discussion and also be confident a discussion is suitable for their taste and their children. Providing a place for everyone would be the best option.
