tips for researching Angelfish in reef aquaria:
*research specific species using scientific names if possible
*research compatibility
*research aquarium size
*research dietary preferences
*be willing to sacrifice or remove an invert or two ;)

Re: what is that fish??????

Chaetodontoplus mesoleucus grows to a size appropriate for a 150 IMO. May pester certain corals.

here's a suggestion:
if you haven't researched any particular Angelfish enough to remember how to spell it's name properly you need to keep researching it :)

while I'm back, how about another pic.
Not my aquarium but one I know of locally which is home to a

Centropyge multicolor

Have you ever owned either? Undy's are mean fish, but they usually just stay in a cave and thats it. When they are young (less then 2") they usually keep to themselves and many people can keep damsels and other small aggressive fish with them. I would get a 2" undy and my passer angel is 6" and probably would most likely kill the undy. They are extremely aggressive angels.

Yes I have. That experiance was what my reccomendation was based on. my Undulate was 3 inches and the Passer was a little more than 5 inches. The Undulate took out the left eye of the Passer. I realize Passer's are very territorial, however, triggers are armored and every fish has a different disposition.

Best of luck to you with mixing yours.

Nice pics guys.

Just added this little cutie to my new 60 a few days ago. My first fish in the tank. Found her at the LFS. A 2" Red Sea Regal. She was eating live brine when I bought her. Today, she ate frozen mysis and Angel Formula from Ocean Nutrition, along with the live brine.

She also let go a nice dark green turd today. That tells me that she's definitely getting her greens as she grazes the rocks..

I'm starting to think she might actually make it.

I should have cleaned the glass before taking the pic...sorry.

MCliffy, I love the blues on yours pop....Mine will too when the actinics are on...I'm lighting my tank with dual 250w 10K XM SE's. If I had to do it all over again, I most likely would have gone with a T-5 set up. I love the colors your getting in your tank.

Bruno,
This is the 2nd Regal I've kept. The first I had for a year before losing it in an accident, (Ritteri anemone wandered into pump intake, got shredded, released nematocysts which killed all fish except clowns...:( )This one I've had a little over a year, (15 months). One thing I noticed about both fish was that they did better when they had other "dither" fish to show them what other food sources might be, and they didnt really begin to get fully adjusted until right around a year or so in my care. they would eat, but somewhere around a year, they began to get more aggressive about what they were eating. My current one only began eating Nori about 3 months ago.

Hey maxx and mcliffy. Those are real beauties. Hopefully, mine will last long enough to get that big and beautiful.

This is my first Regal. I've successfully kept and raised Emporers, Queens, Blues, a Scribbled, a Majestic, a King(Passer), a couple of Flames and a couple Coral Beauties over the years.

I know the Regals are tougher to raise to a ripe old age than any of those, but I think I'm on the right path. I remember when it was unheard of to have any success at all trying to raise the Regal.

Anyway, the little guy is eating more agressively, and getting more comfortable with his surroundings every day. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Glad to hear it's getting more aggressive at eating. However, the proof is in the pudding, so you're gonna have to keep posting pics to this thread!
:D

The little Regal is doing great. I've got her feeding schedule down so that she's getting all of the required nutrients, which allegedly is why this fish is so hard to keep alive over an extended period.

She likes the Angel formula the least, but I've read that it's necessary for her to get some sponge in her daily diet, so I feed this first, in 4 to 6 very small bite-size pieces one at a time over a 1/2 hour period.

The mysis comes second about 2 hours later. She attacks this agressively at first, but gets filled up pretty quickly. I feed her two servings of 4-6 bite-sized pieces 15 mintes apart.

The live brine comes last 3 hours or so later. She loves the live brine, and will stuff herself until every last one is gone. I know this is not that nutritious, but I'll continue to feed it until she goes after the Mysis with as much gusto as she attacks the live brine.

Of course, she also gets plenty of greens grazing the rocks.

Seems like a lot of trouble, but I'm determined to keep this little baby alive.

Why not just blend the foods she dont like with the foods the brine she loves?
