I have had this guy along with a Queensland yellowtail angel in the same tank for over a year. You can make out part of the yellowtail below the regal.

Angels are such vivid and graceful fish (too bad they can be aggressive and coral munchers). They are what drew me into keeping a saltwater tank some 25 years ago.

I kept a Passer Angel in a 75g FOWLR for about 10 years. That was the first fish I bought for that tank. Although I bought some fish after him, he never allowed anything to live with him. He was the most territorial fish I've ever had. Mean SOB.

I now have a Cherub Angel who has been in my 38g reef for about two years.

Sundancer is that a false personifer with the regal? Got any shots of that?

Mike, nice emperor! Love the clown tang too!
Yes, if you call it that. I just call it a Queensland Yellowtail. It is not the true Personifer. He is reef safe, too.

I have a passer angel as well, and he is in a tank by himself as well. I may try and undy trigger with him, I don't know though.

I wouldnt reccomend that unless the angel is alot larger than the Undulate. Even I would watch it...Undulates are nasty tempered.

how long have you had that rock beaty...what's your secrets for keeping one alive. Nice fish

Sorry to interupt and I hope this is ok..but I must ask you Angel People....What corals can I safely keep with Emperor Angel?
I notice some of you have angels in with corals that I did not think was possible etc...so..now you have me wondering......
Can an Emperor be kept with: Ricordea, Zoos, Torch, Frogspawn,
Brain, blastomussa, acans? Your opinions welcome....
I am talking 280 gallon 8ft tank....and it is my favorite fish and I never thought I could possibly keep it in reef...but...again..you have me very curious....thanks kindly for your help....Tim

Every angel has their own personality. Some love corals and clams, some are fine with what you feed them. The only way to see if yours is reef safe, is to put him in. Just have a plan to get him back out if he has a flavor for corals.

I am guessing from your list your zoanthids would be first followed bye your blastos, brain and acans.I would not trust any pomacanthus angel with anything but sps.I would think anything else is fair game and your sps may not be safe either.I have a blueface angel and he eats zoas like candy. He has never touched any sps in my tank .I would say the imperator is one of the tougher angels to keep in a reef although you may get lucky.I would say just be prepeared to remove him if he decides to start eating your favorite acans.

No Emperor

No Emperor

It sounds like I make a choice......emperor and no reef or reef and no emperor....

I must choose the later.

Darn...

I love Emperors...

Thanks for input.

Tim

I introduced an adult emperor to my sps dominted reef about a month ago, he likes to pick on things especially my open brain and candy cane. He has never touched my clam, frogspawn or my zoas. He will pick on some sps but my corals are big enough that he does not do any reel damage. That all being said I am not sure if I would add him if I had to do it over again. Very nice fish although I am always stressed he desides to go coral crazy and I have tear apart my tank to get him out.

Have you ever owned either? Undy's are mean fish, but they usually just stay in a cave and thats it. When they are young (less then 2") they usually keep to themselves and many people can keep damsels and other small aggressive fish with them. I would get a 2" undy and my passer angel is 6" and probably would most likely kill the undy. They are extremely aggressive angels.

I just got the trio on thursday, I actually wasn't supposed to get the rock beauty, it was a mess up. Out of the three angels, the rock beauty is the only one to eat, which is crazy I thought. Apparently if you get the rock beauties at such a small young age and they are collected properly, they are easy to raise.
