Thanks Mcliffy2. I am in the process of setting up my 150Gal. My house is modern and I don't like the trim around the tank. Wanted to get ideas on how others are doing it.

Very cool - you should post a pic of yours over in the modern reef aquariums thread in the general reef discussion (its like 45 pages long now, and probably has a few other tanks you can draw inspiration from).

This is what mine looked like up to a a month ago before I accidently cracked one of the tanks

Now it looks like this

Just put the tank in the wall last Saturday, starting to plumb. The tank is 130X37X30 approx 600 gallons

I was re-modeling the room behind the tanks to replace the old linoleum with tile and to replace the original rubbermaid sumps (each tank had its own 100 gallon sump) with one 200 gallon sump. I was shutting down one tank at a time to refurbish that half of the room. I had just finished one side and got it back running, when I noticed that the tank was not completely level and that one of the cross braces had a crack in it. I believe the crack in the brace was do to deterioration from heat and so age.
I lowered the water level in the tank and used all thread to shore up the brace. With the water level lowered I used some shims to level the tank forgetting to release one of the return lines to the sump. This put excessive pressure on the bulkhead on the tank and poof the tank cracked. when it broke it sounded like a 22 going off. Luckily the glass didnt blow out it only leaked a small stream right into the sump, I moved everything in to the sump and a couple of trash cans. I got really lucky on that aspect. The new tank will be flexible PVC.

TyRfin are going to create a thread? I love your dimensions on your new tank. I hooked up my other lights and noticed 2 of my MH are aiming at the bracing and they are getting hot. I guess I should move them. It has been getting me worried. It sounds like you really got lucky.

Eric, you can install a scrap piece of acrylic over the brace with a small 1/4" gap between them. That way the acrylic takes the brunt of the heat, and is replaceable.

not sure if this post will work, as I can't get to my pictures from work - so posting from an unseen link

if it works, here is my 300g (84X24X36)

front - framed into what use to be a hallway
