Very nice looking setup RokleM. How long has it been setup? how do you like your nano streams?

I upgraded to this one from a 20x20x16 cube about a month ago. LOVE the streams.

I'm new to propagation, but I've had a glass 55 in my storage room for about 8 months now. I had been wanting to set it up as a frag tank in my storage room, but not sure how I wanted to do it. Here's what I have so far:

The center brace was broken out of the 55 so I cut it out the rest of the way and replaced it with a removable acrylic brace. Now that the entire opening was unobstructed, I had a glass tray cut and a friend put it together for me. It's 8mm glass and the tray is 39" long X 10" wide X 5" deep, just small enough to drop inside the 55 gal, I made diagonal supports from 1" acrylic. (another freebie, pays to have friends) I plan on pushing 800gph through the tray via a spray bar. A sump and frag tray all in one! Here's where I'm at so far:

I've noticed a lot of people aren't using a DSB in the frag set-ups. What would you recommend I put in the sump? Just rock and a fuge? Please help I'm planning on filling it with water soon...

Dastank--
I'm a little confused--is the glass tray removable or siliconed in place? If it's siliconed, how are you going to access the sump? Why did you choose this design over an elevated eggcrate tray?

The glass tray is removable.

My thinking was I could run a fuge and DSB under the tray and maximize the light with the corals being in shallow water. I'm going to run T5s not HM so I wanted to keep them close to the light.

Not to mention he is a 100% Zoo guy. 99% of the zoo's we find is in 3 feet of water.

Im going to build the same thing but a few small changes. Mike got his great ideal from yours truely.

I have 2 standard 29 gallon tanks. The prop tank has acrylic wedges glued on the interior glass at 6 and 10 inches, making bases for egg crate shelves. Under those shelves I placed some live rock and a large powerhead for filtration and water movement.

It is lit by a 14K MH pendant 12 hours on, 12 hours off. The fuge is lit opposite with one of those full spectrum flourescents you can purchase at Home Depot. Inexpensive, effective. Wish I had one of those little coralife fixtures but we just had a baby and damn we're broke.

The sump underneath is also a standard 29 gallon tank. In section 1, I have my heater, and a coralife needle wheel skimmer. That is followed by three bubble trap baffles, and moves into my return zone. Honestly, I wish I had made this area smaller, but it is what it is. Then, I have a refugium that is approximately 1/3 of the tank with a deep sand bed, a chunk or two of live rock and then a ton of cheato. Right now there are two residents, a nassarius snail I got with a cup of live sand from my LFS to seed mine.

My circulation consists of a Mag-5 for my return pump and a a Seio M820, approximately 1170 GPH, just over 40x per hour.

I'll upload some photos.

Thanks to Marc Levinson who really whas a ton of help to me for aspects of designing and building this system.

fishsoldseprtly,

is that a metal light rack ? and are those luminarc reflectors ?

how do you like them ..

Joe

yea it is, and yes I do like using the L3s. I use the Lumenarc minis on my smaller prop as well. Great piece. They have the black ones now and they would be perfect for my prop tank.
