Here is our setup. We decided to use our carport. Here is what we started with. It is 18’ x 20’.

The framing is started.

The walls are up and insulated.

The building is complete.

Here we are installing the tanks. We are starting with two systems. One system is for LPS and softies and the other system is for SPS. Each system consists of a 100 gallon Rubbermaid stock tank for the sump and two 75 gallon rectangular Tuff Tubs for grow out. These tubs are 46” x 31” x 16”. This gives us good surface area at a very good cost. The sumps will have about 100lbs of live rock, a deep sand bed, chaeto, and mangroves with a 48” T5x4 bulb fixture.

Here is the completed SPS system. Each tanks drains into the sump then the water is returned through the manifold in the back to a spray bar in each tank and a surge tank for each. The manifold also feeds a DIY skimmer which drains through carbon and back into the tank.

Here is a shot of both systems. One LPS tank is illuminated by a 48” T5 6 bulb TEK light and the other by a 36” T5 8 bulb retro. The SPS tanks are illuminated by a single 250W MH in Lumenbrite reflector over each tank and powered by Coralife electronic ballast. The Lumenbrite reflector has great output but is very focused so it does not cover the whole tank. I made a manual light mover to slide the reflector and it is repositioned every day. So far this is working pretty well.

teamreefers awsome job. That setup must take quite a bit of your time. Have you had any problems with humidity or temp?

It has been hard work for a old man :) We had a major humidity problems then added a dehumidifier. It seems to have taken care of it. We plan to add a ventialtion system.
The temps have been pretty good so far with only a small space heater but I know when summer gets here, we are going have issues.

Ive been through all that as well. I started with a central air unit. It kept temps down somewhat but I had spikes of 85 durring real hot days. I had a dehumidifier in use for the first couple years but found them to be power hogs. Not to mention the fact that they get really bad salt corrosion and fail; long before they should. I have now regrouped and did away with all that. I now use a 3ton heat exchanger with titanium coil(bought on ebay believe it or not) It is the bomb and has worked for two years. Temps never go above 80;) even on 100plus days. As for humidity, I installed two gable fans from lowes (15 year warranty) The warranty helps as the fan motors are toast in one season. I have made them last a little longer by spraying corrosion inhibitior inside the motors.Humidity is no issue in the summer with these fans. Winter on the other hand gives high humidity. In the past I would discontinue the use of the fans in the winter due to the cold air they draw in when in use. Now they stay on all year . I installed a humidistat to controll the fans in the winter. It still draws in cold air but does great at getting rid of humidity. Just bump up your heater wattages. I run two 1000 watter and no other heat is needed (1200 gallons) I discontinue use of the humidistat in the summer and go on temps alone. On a hot summer day my inside temps can reach 116 and the water temp just cruises at 80;)

Here's mine- Dimensions are 36"x20"x12"
T'd off the Tarpon Return, Drains back into the sump, Lighting is a single 250w XM10k, Icecap, ROIII reflector. Flow is 2xsureflo 2100gph mjmods.

It's just white eggcrate that I painted black w/Krylon Fusion..

That is a remote control whirley bird, Tibroc... $5000

I'm certain there is plenty of info on Krylon Fusion being safe but I can only search 1 out of 100 times for now.

Reef Safe Huh ? Anyone with happen to have a link handy ?

ConcreteReefer , I see the remote for that thing now ! [glasses]
That whirly bird is pretty bad !

Look for "Where to buy black eggcrate" threads- Apparently, Krylon bonds with plastic at a molecular level-- Leaching is highly unlikely-

I have had no issues with it, It has actually helped.. I used to get a weird algae growth only on the eggcrate, now that its painted I don't get any.

i need inspiration lol

hope no one minds me bringing it back up - thought it would be good opportunity for everyone to update
