How long have you had this fish? This morph is interesting and I'd suspect this one stays for good... the "white" morph or "piebald" Zebrasoma flavescens morph back over time to normal... I've documented it through two specimens I have...

This aberrant Zebrasoma xanthurum of mine that is grey and white has held it's color... or lack there of...

I bought it from a local dealer here in Sweden, I think he got it from TMC but im not sure, I have had the fish for about 6 months now, and the dealer had him for about 4 months. And it have always been this white.

TMC gets shipments straight from Hawaii... which is where this fish must have originated... do you mind me asking what this fish retailed for there in Sweden? If not I understand...

Well that is a beautiful fish... chances are it was collected on the Kona coast of the Big Island of Hawaii... I am a huge Zebrasoma fan, and own rostratum, gemmatum, and some morphs and hybrids... that is a fish I'd love to have in my collection... but I am done with the white/yellow ones! :)

Do you mean an ALL white scopas? I have never seen those... although I've owned "tricolor" tangs also... the mutant variant of Zebrasoma scopas, and those will change in color too... interestingly the light colored markings morph back but the dark stayed for me... here is a scopas specimen of mine...

The tail was originally all white... in this photo you could see it waning...

And further on here the white is almost completely gone... the black on the back stayed the same... it's tough to tell from the pics, but the color on the back is just like the black/blue you see in Zebrasoma rostratum...

There is a regional morph of Zebrasoma scopas that is all yellow that I have... this one holds its color...

Yet many of morphs that are lightly colored aberrants/ piebalds/ xanthics will morph back over time... this has amazed many ichthyologist friends of mine... but it is true... here are some of my other fish through different families that I've noted will morph back... something to keep in mind before you spend four figures on a fish!

A Hawaiian flame wrasse Cirrhilabrus jordani right after collection...

... and a few months later...

It eventually changed back to normal...

A blue angel Holacanthus bermudensis when I got it as a fully xanthic juvie...

Here is a dark morph example of a hippo tang I have (Paracanthurus hepatus) that HAS kept it's color (and grown big like Paracanthurus do in captivity)

Did it have the characteristic Z. scopas spotting?

Was it a clownfish white or a ghost white compared to the specimens above?

How much was it? If it was inexpensive it's worth it just to document the potential color change... does the shop know what it has? And you're sure it's not just a malnourished or sick fish correct?
