Show size Achilles Tang on DD

nice fish. Lots of care go into the show size/xlrg fish that most people take for granted... especially soft bodied tangs like achilles!

I want a large one too but its always sold out even if they have 40 of them in one day but I saw a show size Achilles hybrid yesterday too and tons of Show Size black tang too 7-9". My friend pick up a 5" fat hybrid achilles, its pricey but its very worth it. The yellow and orange combination is awesome. I agree with 808state larger fish in general is hard to take care of, let alone an Achilles, which makes them 3 times harder but reefer wants the challenge.

I'm interested to know why the larger fish are more difficult? Just the larger quantity of food, and thus large quantity of waste to process?

After dealing with hundreds of Achilles tangs I find the statement that large ones are harder to care for than small ones misleading for a few reasons.

Given adequit space and proper quarantine, a large Achilles like this is much hardier than their smaller counterparts. They have more reserves and handle copper much better than small ones.

The trick is the adequit space and proper quarantine, something the ordinary reefer cannot usually provide for an animalof this size.

Wow... very nice AT Blueline12! How big is he now? Colors are great. I got one last month about 3-4'. Hes still in qt. Im concerned though that hes got a cloudy eye for week now. Treated w prazi and maracyn two. Hopefully this will go away soon!

Maybe my large is different that yours
Large to me is 7-8"
3-4" are small
5-6" is ideal in my opinion is medium
8-9 is XL
bigger than 8" are much harder to acclimate.

Thanks. He's about 6.5"-7" with the streamers and fat. Good luck with yours.

Large fish in general are much harder to ship and acclimate to prepared foods. 3-5" achilles i never have a problem with. The larger ones take more time to eat. They do have more fat reserves, so they last longer before being skinny, but that is relative.

What i meant was larger fish are a lot harder to catch, purge, hold and ship as all these add costs to the fish.
