Show your Mangrove Systems

Has anyone tired to incorporate an automated mister system for the mangroves? Seems like it could be a fun project to try. I was looking around and found these http://ezmister.com/, they are push connect misters, I think all you would need is a timer, booster pump, and some RO tubing. You could use some zip ties and egg crate to attach the misters, so it would be possible to mount over the mangroves. Then connect it to your RO/DI line and you could have an automated system.
Give me your thoughts!
Thanks, and great mangrove systems!

Interesting idea for a DIY for my trees since I travel for work so much.
I'm a little reluctant for the cost of a booster pump though. Have to look into if this can be done with a MJ and a 'sprinkler array' made from pvc.

I've went 7 days w/o misting, but I don't know if that is the limit with reds...

Maybe I read this wrong or got my information crossed but I thought that the mangroves put roots out until they hit sand etc. and then leafed out.

I have no sand in my system but one of mine started producing leaves in December and is about to send out secondary leaves. I have another tree that looks like it is about to do the same thing.

Thanks.

Choose oolitic aragonite this type of aragonite has valuable properties among them dissolves fast and releases all the elements your corals love a 6 or 7 inch layer will reduce NO3 so fast you will be amazed and offers the type of muddy substrate for your mangroves

The plumbing can be directed to your main sump wherever it is

Just had to tell you guys that I was in the process of adding mangroves to my sump When this thread was started. So I pretty much copied the build with plenum and deep sandbed as above. once completed( i used sand from other tanks that was already "live") and six Mangroves, within 3 days and I double checked the results ,my nitrates went from 80ppm to 20ppm. I will try to post some pics! Thanks so much.

Just received some mangroves and placed them in my tank. Haven't added any direct light to them yet I'm gonna see how they do before adding supplemental light

Sorry the last one is a little dark from the tank light

Hi Mangrove growers,
I have been lurking this forum for a while and I have always been impressed with mangroves being able to grow in a reef aquarium and provide nutrient export. I have also done some research on algae scrubbing or turf scrubbers. Some of you have mentioned leds , and we have come to find out that 660nm wavelength leds grow algae best, but from what I've seen combinations of deep red and blue (445nm range) grow plants best, such as orchids and woodier plants. Have you guys seen these kinds of lights?:

I'd be willing to bet that if you tried some of these on you established mangroves they would grow better. I have fixture coming in from china, so when I get it maybe I'll experiment. Deathwish- you said your led bulb from home depot gave you great results, try one of these bulbs and see if you get even better growth, I can just bet you might.

Basically professional horticulture growers use these types of led lights to get the fastest and best growth.

Here are my Mangroves growing in the corner of my 40 Gal. At the beach I found a couple of Nickel sized seeds washed up. I have them floating in a cut up egg carton. They are growing pretty steady compared to my Mangroves.

would totally submerging the mangrove which has no leaves in the water kill them or slow their growth in any ways?

I just got some red mangroves from reefcleaners and wanted them in my display tank. Crappy thing is that none have leaves and I forgot that I need to use the BRS screen top to keep my livestock from jumping. I want them in the display and not in the sump. None have leaves yet. Can they be fully submerged or not? I only have 1" between the top and the water line. I am scared to cur the BRS net at this point and break the tension on it then have it all unravel.

Would totally submerging the mangrove which has no leaves on it work?

Following along... Do you think my mangrove will survive submerged like this? It's in a 90 gal with a 400 watt MH. I've only had it in the tank for 3 days now.

NO. It will not live. Not to be a downer but mangroves must have half-to-two thirds of the plant above water level.

The nickel sized seed ones grow much much faster in my experience. keep us posted as to their growth rate :)

I recently picked up 100 mangroves seeds. Here are some pictures. there were no roots when I got them.. this is about 3-4 weeks in
