Siganus doliatus & Siganus virgatus the same thing?

StrategicReef,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. The Two Barred Rabbitfish, also known as the Barred Spinefoot, which we have shown on both LiveAquaria and PetEducation , are Siganus virgatus. We are currently correcting this information on our PetEducation web site.

The Siganus doliatus will have blue vertical striping on the body and the Siganus virgatus have blue spotting on the body.

If you have further questions please contact us.

Thanks for the explaination.

My purple tang immediately recognize my Siganus Virgatus as a competitor.. and keep on bumping with its side. Although the rabbitfish is much smaller he does not get spooked from its behavior.. But I have not seen him graze the rocks yet, everytime he tries to sample the rock the tang will cut in rudely and start grazing in from of him! It's kind of funny but hopefully this settles soon. I mean there are plenty of algae for both of them.

StrategicReef,

Tangs and Rabbitfish are compatible with caution. If possible, we recommend rearranging your live rock so the Purple Tang does not have a specific territory. This will help give both fish an even ranking in the aquarium and will hopefully deter any further aggression.
