*sigh* it happened again

I visited my LFS today thinking I was only going to just look. Well, I found that snapper still there after 2 weeks. I said to the guy that I may buy it if I can see it eat. He laughs and says "It eats everything!" He defrosted a cube of mysis and dumped it into the tank. The snapper not only ate but he bum rushed the clump of mysis, leaving hardly a scrap for anyone else. To top it all off, the little guy already looked pretty plump.
So I bought it.
It is so hard to control myself. I swear, I need to stay away from fish stores from now on.

Thanks for letting me know I am not alone.

Here is a picture of the little beauty. Does anyone have experience with snappers? As far as I know, they are pretty hardy fish. The only difficulty that may be encountered with them is that they can become quite large. For now, he is a modest 2 inches, the same as my big male anthias.

They get huge and will eat just about any other fish in the tank. Apart from that they are great.

How fast do they grow? About how long would it take to reach its max size? Better yet, how long do I have until it becomes a danger to my chromis and gramma?

But seriously...I am going to try not worrying about it too much. All my other fish grow excruciatingly slow. My rhombeus, which I've had for 2 years, has barely grown a centimeter. My chromis which I've had for forever don't grow at all despite being very well fed. So hopefully this snapper follows the same trend.

this is starting to sound like the lounge.


your other fish grow slower since they do not get as big as the snapper. the snapper will grow fast since 1 it's a carnivore and 2 it needs to get to a larger size to keep eating. even though it looks small it will eat whatever it can catch. so i wouldn't think you should keep it in there for too much longer. unless you starve it.
