why not?
i see many mentions on NOT feeding them, but why?

do/can they really ice your nem? if so, how?
thanks!

Man, I was the poster boy for feeding silvers a while back, and scoffed at those who said it was bad, after all, I fed them for about 4 years w/ no issues to both my nems.
But recently I lost 3 expensive LTA's immediately after feeding, watched them just turn inside out, regurgitate, release, and melt next day, all 3.
It's not worth the chance IMO, done w/ silvers.
Honestly, people put way more emphasis on spot feeding nems than needed.

I lost 2 expensive RBTA in a row feeding silverside, since then I have lost zero. Not 100% it was due to silverside but system was not changed only food source and no issue with next 4 nems.

I feed all my BTA a finely minced mix of scallop, clam, squid, tuna, shrimp, and any other raw seafood I can find at the grocery store. I freeze it in flat sheets in sandwich bags and just break off chunks when I feed them. Thaw them in tank water and spot feed the anemones with a syringe.

Small pieces of food are easier for anemones to digest.

I highly doubt it is the silverside itself that caused a problem, but perhaps it was rancid, poorly packed, or laden with bacteria. My guess is that silversides are not flash frozen like food for human consumption might be.

Whatever the cause, I don't know for sure, but too many exp people had this same thing happen.
Honestly, the first year and a half I had my nems I never spot fed.
Light is their main source of energy.
Some purposely do not spot feed to keep from growing too fast.
My nems get mysis during feedings.
If you were nursing a bleached nem, or light was kinda on weak side, or you are inducing speedy growth, say nem was smaller than what should be for hosting clowns, spot feeding may be needed more.
A raw peeled shrimp, scallop, or suggestions above would all be good choices.

Frozen fish food is not good enough for my anemone. I feed them human food, what ever sea food that I can eat. You may never know about pet food. People do not take care of pet food as they would food for human consumption. A large carton of fish food the got thaw out will get re-freeze and sold. Not so for human food.
Silverside being small fish and frozen with full gut, will spoil very fast and you may get a bad patch of food that will kill you anemone without you know about it until it is too late.

Some of you think that human food is really clean and nothing is ever wrong with it. Look at all the cases of recalled food products in just the past 6 months. This is a list of just Nov and Dec. Just for your reference.

Holy cow!lol
Yeah, think the main point is that pet foods don't quite get the care or priority as human food.
As to those that have had years of good luck w/ silvers, great for you, and honestly hope it stays that way for you, but it only takes one bad exp to have a really bad day, so why risk it when not necessary?

I stopped using them about a year ago. Fed one to a small malu anemone, which had been doing great, the next morning it was dead. I just use frozen krill now.

I feed a mix following Eric Borneman's Coral recipe (as close as I can easily follow that is....)

No silversides in the recipe.

I have been feeding silver sides but I cut mine in half and share it with my lobster.

It is really bad for my nem? I had gotten it from a guy and he told me that was all he fed it and I have been for almost 2 years now. Am I killing it?

Been feeding silversides for almost 2 years now with no problems at all................and will continue to do so.
